Vic’s Picks: Carson Palmer, NBA, Mike Leach
by Victor Rodriguez on Oct. 22, 2011, under Sports- This past Tuesday, quarterback Carson Palmer finally got his wish: he was traded from the Cincinnati Bengals to the Oakland Raiders. Palmer wanted out of Cincinnati so bad that he was willing to sit out the entire season without pay to prove his point. As an organization, the Bengals look to be sitting pretty. Their two rookies: quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green have been solid picks, improving every week. In exchange for the former Heisman trophy winner they got a reported first and second round pick from Oakland. Finally, and probably most importantly, they got rid of a player who didn’t want to be there and basically walked out on all his teammates. Mike Brown, the owner of the Bengals, can be thick-headed as he is somewhat known as a difficult person to get along with. The fact he did not cave into Palmer’s demands shows that it’s his team and only he will decide what changes need to be made. Brown looks like he got the better end of the deal anyway. He got rid of an aging quarterback and in the process got parts that help build for the future.
- It’s anyone’s guess on how many games will be played during the NBA season. One day the owners and players seem to be making progress and then the next day they are further away then they were before. One thing is for sure though; there will be plenty of college basketball regardless of whether or not the NBA ends the lockout. After last season, with the possibility of a lockout on the horizon many college players decided to return to school, knowing they would be playing basketball this winter. In that sense, the competition of the college game should be as high as its been. Players like North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes and John Hanson, Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger and Kentucky’s Terrance Jones all decided to return, making the elite in college basketball that much more competitive. Die hard basketball fans are excited and can’t wait for games to start. However, sports fans in general will probably start showing interest in college basketball like they always do, after the conclusion of the Super Bowl.
