In order to win a Super Bowl many things have to fall into place. A team must be playing well down the stretch, hitting on all cylinders, and being healthy enough to have players making plays is key. For the New York Giants, everything seemed to fall in place, similarly as they did when they won the Super Bowl. Now, for the second time in four years, the New York Football Giants can say they are the kings of the NFL.

“I think they were peaking at the right time and I thought they’d be this year’s (Green Bay) Packers,” NBC Sports reporter and NFL Network host Alex Flanagan told the Victor and Matt Show on 110SportsPodcast.com. “You just felt that in the latter part of their season they were heating up, really bonding and coming together. Midseason, people were talking about if this was Tom Coughlin’s last year? Is he going to be fired? Are they going to make changes? Where is Eli? Is he the quarterback that he’s suppose to be? I think they overcame the adversity and turned it in to a Super Bowl win.”

Having to overcome adversity can definitely shows a team’s character. When things were going poorly, the Giants rallied around each other and started playing really good football at the right time. Not only did Coughlin and Manning silence their critics by winning their second Super Bowl together, with the win, both enhanced their Hall of Fame resumes. The question of whether or not Manning is an elite quarterback can be put to rest. He’s as clutch, especially in the fourth quarter, as any QB who’s ever played.

But did the better team really win this past weekend?

“I think on paper, in some ways the better team won,” Flanagan added. “We saw the Patriots defense struggle for most of the year. A lot of people were somewhat surprised by the defensive statistics the Patriots had that they made it to the Super Bowl. I think the Giants, their record, didn’t indicate how good they were.”

While all the talk is about the duo of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady making another trip to the Super Bowl, don’t sleep on Coughlin and Manning as both have proven themselves as a coach and player. Remember, Coughlin and Manning are only one ring behind Belichick and Brady, but more importantly, 2-0 against them in the “Big One.” The better team won and in addition, the future seems brighter for the G-Men then the Pats at this point.
