Last summer Lute Olson offered voluntary advice to Sean Miller about his potential career move

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Sean Miller‘s flirtation last summer with the Maryland job confused many in Tucson, but retired Arizona coach Lute Olson told 110SportsPodcast.com earlier this week, ”If that had been offered when he was at Xavier, that’s where he would have gone.”

In other words, it was a job he had a lot of respect for. It was a school that had won a national championship in the last decade, solid recruiting area, good conference and in a part of the country he enjoyed.

Miller and the Wildcats wrapped up their season last week with a first round loss in the NIT, but the future looks bright with a strong recruiting class coming in that should fill many of their issues.

Olson, who said his advice was not solicited, offered more thoughts on the potential career move. “When I talked with him, I said, ‘Just look at it realistically, yeah, it would be easier recruiting at Maryland, but are you going to beat North Carolina and Duke on a regular basis? You’re not. So, you’re going to be the third or fourth team in the conference.’ Now, maybe he felt he could overtake those two, but I don’t think you get the same kind of players at Maryland as they get at Duke or at North Carolina.”

Video Blog: If Sean Miller leaves, who should Arizona hire?

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Victor and Matt from 110sportspodcast.com discuss the possibility that Sean Miller could leave Arizona. The two most realistic opportunities at this moment would be Jim Calhoun retiring from UConn or John Calipari jumping back into the NBA for the New York Knicks job. Both schools with openings would at least take a look at Miller and both programs would each have their own lure to leave Tucson. We have two names to get the conversation going – Brad Stevens and Scott Drew. We discuss!
