Vic’s Picks: LA Clippers, Chris Paul, Patriots-Broncos

Saturday, December 17th, 2011
  • Chris Paul is packing his bags and heading west to play for the Los Angeles Clippers, not the Lakers. For the Clippers who have always been considered the JV squad behind the Lakers, by acquiring Paul they now have two important pieces to build upon to be a threat not only to the Lakers but to the rest of the league. Paul is one of the best point guards in the league and forward Blake Griffin is a highlight machine. With this duo, imagine how many times we’ll see them on ESPN’s “Top Ten.” My guess would be every time they lace them up together. Now, the Clippers supporting cast will have to continue to develop into role players so Paul and Griffin don’t have to carry all the weight. They have one of the NBA’s best inside and outside players. On the flipside, not only did the Lakers not land Paul, they lost the reigning Sixth Man of the Year in Lamar Odom. After David Stern vetoed the deal that would have sent Paul to the Lakers and Odom to New Orleans, Odom asked for a trade, then two days later was shipped to Dallas. To send one of the team’s best players to the team that swept you out of the playoffs en route to them winning the championship doesn’t make much sense. Kobe Bryant didn’t like the trade and most experts felt the same way. If the Lakers can’t somehow manage to land Dwight Howard, the Lakers don’t just have to worry about the Clippers and Mavericks, they’ll have to deal with the rest of the western division.
