Vic’s Picks: Joe Paterno, Penn State, Bulls-Heat

Saturday, January 28th, 2012
  • With the passing of Joe Paterno last Sunday the question of JoePa’s legacy has already been asked. Will he be remembered as a loving and loyal man? Or will his lasting image be the dark cloud that surfaced a couple of months ago, costing him his job? The reality is it’s in the eye of the beholder. Hopefully most will remember JoePa for all the good he did at his time at Penn State. Certainly questions will be asked about why Paterno didn’t do more regarding Jerry Sandusky, but when asking those question lets not forget all the good he accomplished. The argument can be made that JoePa has done more for Penn State, both athletically and academically, than any other coach in America. Paterno and his wife, Sue, would donate millions of dollars to the university for educational purposes. How many other college coaches would think of doing the same thing? Watching the public memorial service for JoePa was touching and inspirational as everyone shared stories about Paterno. He was definitely a man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. While many still mourn the loss of their beloved coach, remember to the celebrate the life of a man who lived his life trying to make it a better place for everyone. He made a mistake, but what man can say they haven’t. JoePa will always be remembered as a coach who cared not only for his football program, but the whole community of Penn State.
