We had to wait until today to congratulate the Arizona Republican legislators for their courageous votes against 5 anti-immigrant laws that Senator Russell Pearce was pushing for. Monday, March 21, 2011, was the last day for any legislator to file a motion to revive 5 anti-immigrant harsh bills.
The historic vote occurred on Saint Patrick’s Day, a religious holiday that is remembered and symbolic for Saint Patrick driving the snakes from Ireland. In my mind, the Arizona Republicans who voted against these harsh laws on St. Patrick’s Day is symbolic of their listening to the business leaders — who are the driving force of America’s economic engine. Without small businesses and entrepreneurialism, our economy would die. The snakes in Arizona represent the old Dixiecrat thinking people who embrace isolationism, restrictionism and protectionism. Isolationists work contrary to pro growth ideas.
The below Arizona Republicans have proven themselves to be the solution-makers of our future. They have chosen not to continue to create criminal law, because they are solution-driven. They represent the politicians of our future, not of our past. Last year, a harsh anti-immigration bill was introduced, and the message some of these lawmakers have sent to Washington is this: the federal government must fix the broken immigration system.
Since the creation of SB 1070, federal lawmakers and President Obama have deported more undocumented (criminal element as well as the non-criminal element) back to where they came from. They sent millions and millions of dollars to securing our borders.
The below Arizona state legislators recognize they have a limit to what they can do, and they have acknowledged that the federal government must address the broken immigration system. The Arizona state legislators have seen the economic distress, housing market distress and the family distress that SB 1070 helped to create. Now it appears (with the help of the Arizona business community) that they want to act to heal this state and our country while putting pressure on Washington D.C. to fix the broken system. SOMOS REPUBLICANS will meet with federal lawmakers to introduce our 12 steps to secure borders and legal immigration this month.
We want to commend and send praise to the Arizona Republicans who voted to save the State of Arizona, and repair the image we have to nation and to the world. Arizona still has 26 anti-immigrant bills that are floating out there, and we hope they will continue to remember that the federal government has jurisdiction over immigration related issues. The 26 bills have been implemented primarily by GOP lawmakers and one Democratic legislator (Kyrsten Sinema) who broke rank to appear “tough” on immigrants. We have asked Senator Sinema to kill her SB 1225 bill because the law is already on the books, but she continues to ignore the Latino community that got her elected.
The immigration issue affects national security and our trade relations with our soil neighbors, and it is unreasonable for us to have 50 different rogue states trying to implement their own immigration law. It is reasonable to have one law, as we support the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution of the United States because this is an issue that could impact our trade agreements with other countries, and we believe Arizona Republicans should continue to embrace free market thinking.

Backlash.
There is backlash from our Maricopa County GOP Chair — Robert (Bob) Haney. Here are the headlines we are seeing on his blog that sends thinly veiled threats to these legislators:
March 18, 2011
Yesterday the Arizona Senate defeated five bills dealing with the continued invasion of our country by illegal aliens. Democrats voted in unison against all five bills. Republicans who ran as conservatives, misrepresented their positions to their constituents. Here are the Republicans who voted to defeat the measures:
….Read the letter here.
What have we come to when American businesses favor diminishing the sovereignty of the United States while supporting Balkanization by costly illegal aliens who invade our nation while displaying brazen disrespect for our laws?
The Maricopa County GOP Chair, Bob Haney, has hatred in his heart that is underscores my opinion because he refers to these brave Arizona Republicans as “RINOs” (Republican In Name Only) which is indicitive of his divisive nature. This is how he uses strong-arm techniques in the State of Arizona. He sends out evil letters and emails to the precinct committeemen and blogs about fellow Republicans and calling them “Benedict Arnolds”. How is that for an “official” leader of the Arizona Republican Party?
We have recently seen Kansas put “RINOs” in crosshairs with their stylized buttons shortly after Kansas Representative Virgil Peck suggested shooting “illegals” like pigs from helicopters, and I’m curious if Bob Haney will follow their suit.
