"Now, the next time you hear lawmakers quote statistics in justifying laws to crack down on illegal immigration, check the source of their statistics.."

Well, O.K., I suppose then, it would be in order to ask for some verifiable documentation on the statement this post makes when it alleges that:

"... between half and three-fourths of all undocumented immigrants file tax returns."

I believe that statement to be pure conjecture on the part of the author. Would the author kindly provide some proof of it's veracity. How does anyone know with any certainty at all that illegal aliens working jobs in this country, many of whom are known to be getting paid cash by their employers, employers who don't have them on the record, in fact actually take the time to file income taxes? Illegal workers do not want to alert the government to their presence in this country. It should seem apparent and obvious to even the most naive and simple minded observer that filing tax returns is on the very bottom of an illegal's priority list of things to do. Even in the unlikely event that a working illegal alien should file a tax return, does anyone genuinely believe that the illegal admits to the IRS and to the federal government they are here illegally? Really? IMO, it is next to impossible to track which tax returns are filed by illegals in this country, much less be able to state the above that "half to three-fourths" of them actually do. I don't recall ever having to check a box on my tax return stating whether or not I was working in this country as an illegal alien in violation of U.S. Immigration Law. Does anyone else remember checking that box? Review the form here if you like: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf . It would follow then that if an illegal is being paid cash by an employer who does not keep illegals on the books, no taxes are being withheld. If no taxes are being withheld, it also follows that any of the many services government provides and that illegal and his family use, are in fact being supported by those of us who are working here legally and paying our taxes. To suggest otherwise is beyond rational belief.
