Culture does matter, but the extreme capitalism that is now embraced by the Repubs is inferior to the social democracies of Western Europe.

To listen to a modern Repub, Canada is a socialist country, which is why the US lags far behind in quality-of-life. We are ahead of third world nations, but we are becoming a second world nation that doesn’t even have universal healthcare ( if Romney has his way).

This is exactly how Bain Capital made their money. What I find amusing about this is that this is exactly how the Mafia operates when they take over a business. Perhaps we should look into how many former Bain Capital businesses were torched after bankruptcy to collect the insurance money. If he wasn’t already dead, we’d be better off electing the “Teflon Don”.

“Culture Does Matter”??? The culture of hiding your money in the Cayman Islands and Swiss Bank accounts to avoid paying taxes? The culture of structuring all you income so it’s carried interest and capital gains so you only pay a 15% rate with no payroll taxes? The culture of buying companies, loading them down with debt while you suck out all their cash and then push them into bankruptcy, shutting down with workers all out of a job while you rake in millions. Or the culture of buying an American company in Illinois named Sensata Tech, immediately outsourcing all jobs to China and raising the Chinese flag over the plant, higher than the Americana flag. Is that the culture of which you speak?

“We are great because….well, just because we are such superior folks culturally and in every other way” . A disgusting and self-serving argument. This is exactly the sort of thinking that is used to justify military invasions, prop up ruthless dictators and lead someone to conclude that the slaves brought to the US were the lucky beneficiaries of our “moral” superiority.
