Call him clairvoyant. Call him presumptuous. Or call him someone who can read the new redistricting map.

State Sen. Steve Gallardo, D-Phoenix, attended a news conference at the Capitol to “introduce and endorse his future seat mates,” according to a news release.

The so-called future seat mates are attorney Martin Quezada and former Glendale city councilman and community activist Martin Samaniego. They are running in the new Legislative District 29, which has a heavy Democratic registration edge and a healthy Latino population.

So far, they are the only declared candidates in the race, but still, there has to be an election before they can be Gallardo seat mates.

And for that matter, Gallardo has to get through a primary and a general election himself. Not that any opponents have officially filed yet.
