Members of Ariz. delegation react to NSA surveillance

Arizona’s lawmakers in Washington offered a range of reaction this week to the National Security Agency’s controversial surveillance operations, with some saying the government acted lawfully while others directed pointed criticism at the president, saying he would have opposed such intelligence gathering while in the U.S. Senate.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., called for “a full and open congressional hearing” on the NSA’s gathering of information about phone calls and Internet traffic, saying it should provide “a full and complete accounting” from the government.

Attack becomes issue in D.C. debates on immigration, gun control

The aftershocks of last week’s Boston Marathon bombing and manhunts are being felt on Capitol Hill, with partisans on both sides using the attack to make points about immigration reform and gun control.
The incident either demonstrates the need to go slower on comprehensive immigration reform or shows why such legislation is crucial to bolstering national security, depending who is speaking.
