For many metro Phoenix residents, tubing down the lower Salt River is an annual tradition or even a rite of passage. It means escaping to the barely-out-of-town edge of Tonto National Forest for a day of fun and relaxation in a beautiful landscape, and for pretty cheap. Bring your friends, bring a cooler and bring it on.
Saturday, May 18, kicks off Salt River Tubing and Recreation’s 32nd season with a Western-themed party called the Rocking Rodeo Roundup.

Athletes, actors, comedians and local philanthropists mingled Saturday at Celebrity Fight Night XIX, a black-tie gala with an auction, dinner and entertainment at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix.
The annual affair is a fundraiser primarily for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center’s Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, as well as other charities.

Woman dead in Phoenix hit-run, police say; arrest made

A hit-and-run accident at 34th Street and Thomas Road in Phoenix left a 37-year-old woman dead Saturday morning, and police made an arrest, officials said.
At 12:15 a.m., Phoenix police received a call about a hit-and-run accident. Multiple witnesses said the woman began taking her clothes off and ran into the street, some reporting that she was sitting in the middle of the road. She was then hit by a blue vehicle, which fled eastbound.

Phoenix bicyclist hit by 2 hit-and-run drivers, dies

A man died Friday night after being hit by two vehicles while riding a bicycle near Seventh Street and Roeser Road in Phoenix, police said.
Angel Hernandez-Sotelo, 47, was crossing the road midblock when he was hit by a Ford Taurus around 9 p.m., officials said.
