Former Gilbert High coach won’t be charged in assault investigation

No criminal charges will be brought against teacher and former Gilbert High School football coach Daniel Dunn, who was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into allegations he had assaulted a student.
“After careful review of the relevant statutes and case law as applied to the facts, we have decided we will not be bringing any criminal charges at this time,” Gilbert town prosecutor Lynn Arouh said Wednesday. She declined to elaborate.

Queen Creek High’s ‘Redneck Day’ angers some

When members of the student council at Queen Creek High School organized a schoolwide “Redneck Day” and encouraged classmates to dress — and spoof — accordingly, they hoped to build school spirit leading up to prom week.
Instead, Redneck Day has angered African-Americans and civil-rights leaders and touched off a debate about free speech, social stereotypes and good taste.

Board renews contract for controversial Gilbert principal

Controversial Greenfield Junior High Principal Brian Yee kept his job Tuesday when the Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board voted 3-2 to renew his contract for next year, prompting audience cheers, applause and a standing ovation.
Before the emotional crowd and Yee, who sat quietly in the front row, those voting to renew were Lily Tram, Jill Humpherys and board President Staci Burk. Voting against renewal were Daryl Colvin and Julie Smith.
