Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy suspended 10 games for role in brawl with Los Angeles Dodgers

Friday, June 14th, 2013

SAN DIEGO — Three days removed from their raucous brawl, the Diamondbacks and Dodgers were on opposite sides of the country on Friday, but they continued to exchange barbs on the day suspensions were announced by MLB’s commissioner’s office.
While it was the Dodgers who appeared to be the angry ones after the teams engaged in beanball warfare, it was the Diamondbacks who were seething at the suspensions that were handed down.

Arizona Diamondbacks-Los Angeles Dodgers rivalry grows spicier with plunks, brawl

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

LOS ANGELES – After a game in which the ejections equaled the number of hit-by-pitches, the Diamondbacks-Dodgers rivalry suddenly has become a lot more intriguing.
Diamondbacks right-hander Ian Kennedy drilled opposing pitcher Zack Greinke with a fastball with one out in the seventh inning on Tuesday night, sparking a raucous benches-clearing brawl at Dodger Stadium in a game the Dodgers eventually would win 5-3.

Pat Corbin leads Arizona Diamondbacks to win over San Diego Padres

Sunday, May 26th, 2013

PHOENIX — Earlier this season, Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson tried to get his slumping third baseman, Martin Prado, not to work so hard by asking him to start stop spending so much time in the batting cage. Prado obliged. For one day.

Prado is not one for backing off or taking it easy, and through his struggles at the plate, he continued to work — not because he was struggling but because that’s who he is, what he does.

Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster Bob Brenly says it’s time for robo-umps in baseball

Tuesday, May 21st, 2013

DENVER During a game last week, after the Diamondbacks’ Cliff Pennington was called out on strikes in the 10th inning on a pitch clearly outside of the strike zone, Diamondbacks broadcaster Bob Brenly sounded as if he’d had enough.
“I’m telling you,” Brenly said on the air, “you get into extra innings, you get into the late innings of a close ballgame, you don’t want the umpire to determine who wins a ballgame.”

Atlanta Braves’ Justin Upton gets upper hand in powerful return against Arizona Diamondbacks

Monday, May 13th, 2013

PHOENIX — Diamondbacks General Manager Kevin Towers said last week he had no regrets about the deal that sent outfielder Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves, but Upton continued to do his best to change Towers’ mind.
Many more games and months and years need to pass before judgment can be rendered on the deal, but Monday night Upton presented more pieces of evidence in his favor, this time doing it in person.

Saturday, April 13th, 2013

Fans sitting in a suite behind home plate on Friday night were asked by Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick to change out of their blue Dodgers shirts or else move to a different suite.
The fans agreed, changing into Diamondbacks merchandise provided by the team, Diamondbacks spokesman Josh Rawitch said, adding that the fans would have been refunded had they chose to be relocated.

Arizona Diamondbacks defeat St. Louis Cardinals for 7th straight Opening Day win

Monday, April 1st, 2013

PHOENIX — The Diamondbacks constructed their lineup for these kinds of games, nights when they face a pitcher as good as St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright. They wanted a core group of hitters capable of grinding out at-bats, stringing together hits and chipping away at tough opposing pitchers.
And, though it was just one night at the beginning of a six-month season, the Diamondbacks got the kind of results they’d been dreaming about all winter — and the kind they hope will continue throughout the year.

Arizona Diamondbacks’ Ian Kennedy wants to prove 2011 success was no fluke

Sunday, March 31st, 2013

The narratives that have accompanied Diamondbacks right-hander Ian Kennedy’s big-league career are easy to recall, questions that sprouted like weeds in the driveway. The minute he’d get rid of one, another seemed to pop up.
First, they said he was too small or didn’t throw hard enough. Then he was just a back-end starter at best. Then, OK, maybe he was more than that, but still not an ace. And, finally, after a 2011 season in which he finished fourth in the Cy Young race, there were the doubters who wanted him to see him do it again.

Retooled Arizona Diamondbacks designed with less flash and more dash

Saturday, March 30th, 2013

They sort of half-roll their eyes when they say it. They know how they sound — so riddled with cliches that their quotes could pass as a deleted scene from “Bull Durham.”
They talk about accountability and chemistry, about tugging on the same rope and putting the team first. They talk about molding a group into one cohesive unit that … well, you get the idea. The Diamondbacks sound corny.
