Ahwatukee teacher at Mountain Pointe accused of sexual conduct with student

A volunteer teacher at Mountain Pointe High School in Ahwatukee was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of sexual conduct with a former student, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The parents of a former student at Mountain Pointe High contacted the school Wednesday accusing David Trujillo, 26, of having a sexual relationship with their son while their son was in school, said Sgt Tommy Thompson, a police spokesman. School authorities then contacted Phoenix police. Trujillo had worked as an assistant for the drama instructor, according to the documents.

Man critical, burned in Phoenix Motel 6 fire

A man was in critical condition Thursday morning after he was burned in a motel room that caught fire in Phoenix, according to authorities.
The blaze consumed the room at a Motel 6 near Interstate 17 and Thunderbird Road, officials said. The 25-year-old man was being treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

3 hurt in SUV rollover crash in Gilbert

Three people were taken to a hospital Thursday morning after a vehicle rolled over and ended up in a culvert in Gilbert, according to the Gilbert Fire Department.
Three women, a driver in her 20s and two passengers in their 50s, were flown to a trauma center with non-life- threatening injuries after the rollover near Power and Pecos roads, said Mike Connor, a spokesman for the Gilbert Fire Department.

Phoenix area weather: Triple-digit temps expected

The Phoenix area is expected to heat up throughout the week with temperatures climbing above 100 degrees before a slight cooling trend takes place during the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The high Monday is forecast to be 101 degrees before dropping to a low of 76 degrees in the evening. Temperatures should be above normal throughout the week with a high of 102 degrees on Tuesday and a high of 100 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Weather Service.

Tempe water-main break, sink hole closes stretch of Scottsdale Road

Northbound Scottsdale Road is closed Friday afternoon and will remain closed for several days after a water main break in Tempe, according to officials.
A water main-break at Scottsdale Road and Curry Road has northbound Scottsdale Road closed between Loop 202 and Curry Road, Amanda Nelson, a spokesperson for the City of Tempe said.

A former Paradise Valley High School English teacher was sentenced Thursday morning to 3 and 1/2 years in prison and lifetime probation, in the case of attempted sexual conduct with a minor.
In March, Jordan Doneskey, 26, pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted sexual conduct with a minor, after entering a non-guilty plea to 10 counts of sexual misconduct with a minor in September.

Driver rams vehicle into Scottsdale police car, authorities say

The driver of a sedan is in custody after authorities said the driver rammed a Scottsdale police car early Tuesday morning in Scottsdale, prompting a Department of Public Safety officer to fire a shot at the sedan driver, officials said. The driver was identified as Luis Cardenas, 18.
At 1:20 a.m., Phoenix police officers tried to make a traffic stop near 52nd Street and Oak Street, Officer David Pubins from the Scottsdale Police Department said. Cardenas, driving a black Ford Taurus, did not comply and headed south toward Tempe.

Motorcyclist, 20, killed when driver, 84, failed to yield

A motorcyclist died after a car tried to make a left turn in front of the motorcyclist at Cave Creek Road and Union Hills Drive in Phoenix Wednesday, officials said.
Police responded to a serious injury collision at the intersection of Cave Creek Road and Union Hills Drive around 4 p.m., Sgt. Steve Martos, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department said. Police were told that a motorcyclist was down and his motorcycle was on fire.

1 killed, 2 severely injured in plane crash near Wikieup

One person is dead and two people were severely injured Thursday after a single-engine airplane crashed near Wikieup.
The single-engine Mooney M20 landed in an open area three miles southeast of Wikieup around 11:15 a.m. after it experienced an engine problem, according to Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

2 hurt in Phoenix wrong-way Interstate 17 crash

A mother and daughter are in serious condition Monday morning from a head-on collision on Interstate 17 and Dixileta Drive that left several lanes temporarily closed during the morning commute.
The driver of a Jeep, 41-year-old Johnny Bonnie, was heading north in the south high-occupancy vehicle lane on I-17 when it hit a blue SUV head-on at about 65 mph, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

A woman was killed after being struck by several vehicles Thursday morning on Interstate 17 at 16th Street, forcing the closure of yet another major freeway during the morning commute.
Arizona Department of Public Safety received multiple calls at about 4 a.m. from motorists that they had hit a large object on 1-17 eastbound at 16th Street.

Fatal crash, semi fire closes Interstate 10 near Broadway Curve

All but the two left lanes of both Interstate 10 eastbound and westbound in Tempe are reopened after a fatal semitruck crash forced the closure of the the freeway during the busiest part of the commute Thursday morning, the third such crash this month.
The semitruck hauling textiles slammed into a barrier near Southern Avenue at about 5:30 a.m., killing the truck driver. Debris from the wreck struck two westbound cars, and an eastbound car hit the back of the semitruck.
