When I left to go to the press conference at the Sandra Day O’Connor United States Courthouse I had no idea I would get assaulted by Russell Pearce the self proclaimed Senate Tea Party President. I was equally unaware that Jan Brewer would be so cynical about the murder of two Latinos.

I asked Brewer why she had never mentioned nine year old Brisenia Flores allegedly murdered by members of a minutemen organization and Juan Varela a fifth generation American of Mexican descent allegedly killed by Gary Thomas Kelley after shouting racial slurs like “go back to Mexico wetback” and “your going to die today wetback”. I reminded Brewer that when someone tragically stole the life of Rancher Robert Krentz she stood up proudly and demanded justice.

Our governor’s response was nothing short of insensitive and out of touch with reality. She is so focused on her anti-Immigrant agenda that she completely ignored the question. She stared at me and looked away. Maybe she thought I was an “illegal” and therefore did not rate in her Anglo Saxon world. After all I am a Mexican Immigrant. I recall a reporter asking Brewer in April of 2010 whether she knew what an illegal looked like and after stuttering for a few seconds she admitted she didn’t know what an illegal looked like.

After I asked the question Brewer simply turned away from me and directed herself to Howie Fischer a State Capitol Bureau Correspondent and Anglo Saxon. That was certainly a mistake for Brewer,  he rephrased the same question I had asked and she was forced to give a response.

Brewer was quick to deny that this a one sided battle and further stated that we had to stop the cartels from coming over and killing people. She said the Feds were responsible for protecting our public safety, health and welfare.

It’s hard to understand Arizona’s spin masters, they want to secede from the United States, yet they want the feds to take care of them.

In the end Brewer did what Brewer does best, she spun the story, blamed it on illegals and the feds, and went on to hurriedly take more questions because her nose was growing by the second.
