What Happened To The Separation Of Church & State?

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

That’s something the Christian right seems not to understand, nor care about. In other words, the don’t practice what they preach.

I’m referring to these colossal money making evangelical churches and their dogmatic sheep. Most of these churches or religious entities are in all probability registered as 501(c)(3) corporations, yet they violate the terms of their exemptions daily as they lean right and use their bully pulpit to direct their flock to vote not just Republican, but for particular politicians. What many call values voting. What a joke.

As 2012 approaches we see a desperate effort from conservative politicians aligning themselves with the Christian right and in particular, the Evangelicals. Apparently Rick “The Secessionist” Perry is planning a mega rally with Christians at Reliant Stadium in Houston Texas. By the way, here’s a bit of trivia for you, Reliant Stadium hold up to 72,000 people. That’s a whole lot of Christians and a whole lot of politicians. Apparently Perry has invited fellow governors to join him.

Remember Perry is a Texan, and we all know that in Texas they do everything big. So a big charade with big liars and a stadium full of hypocrites sounds BIG to me.

However I am not writing to you specifically regarding Perry. I’m focused on the hypocrisy of the Christian right and their failure to comply with the requirements under the I.R.S. code which allows them the luxury of being a non-profit.

This is specifically what the I.R.S. code states regarding 501(c)(3) corporations:

To be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3), and none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not be an action organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.

Obviously when you have these right wing Christian churches or groups being courted by politicians like Perry who has been labeled a Christocrat, and you have the churches courting the politicians, you end up with a full breach of the I.R.S. code.

As we approach 2012 we’re bound to see mutations like Reverend Rod Parsley of the World Harvest Mega Church and his Center For Moral Clarity openly violating the 501(c)(3) regulations under the code.

This is what they openly state in their website for CMC:

The Center for Moral Clarity (CMC) is a Christian grassroots organization that advocates for public policies based on biblical principles. Rod Parsley, senior pastor of World Harvest Church in Columbus, Ohio, founded CMC in July 2004 to carry on the great tradition of involvement of Christians in the public square.

Apparently Parsley is “hell” bent on using the CMC and his mega church to influence politics. Looks like he has Perry square in his Christian hip pocket, since he’s the one that named Perry a Christocrat. Parsley is already deep into influencing legislation in his home state of Ohio and has his eye on the big prize, the federal government. his plan? It’s simple! Turn the United States into a theocratic state. A true theocratic state though. That would require clergy that would lend divine guidance to the leader of the state. So to me it’s obvious that Parsley and some of these other right wing snake oils salesmen want to be the divine advisers while Perry want’s to be the ultimate Christocrat.

The way I see it the I.R.S. needs to come down hard on these theocratic thugs. Hold their feet to the fire, and strip them of their exemptions! If you want to dabble in politics, pay your taxes.

Since these holy bullies are always complaining about gays, maybe they need to come out of the closet and tell us who they, really are.
