I have found the best Christmas decorated restaurant in Tucson. Since it is supposed to “feel a lot like Christmas” it is a shame that few streets or places except perhaps Shopping Malls make you feel that it is Christmas time. Of course there is Winterhaven, famous for their Holiday lighting, but on very few streets as you drive throughout Tucson do you feel like it is actually the Christmas season. .

If you really want to feel like Christmas is here, I recommend you visiting one of my favorite restaurants in Tucson, O’Shaughnessy’s Restaurant and Song Club. The decorations in this unique restaurant are some of the most spectacular I have ever seen in a restaurant. Once you walk into the door you will quickly agree with me. Christmas ART, ART, ART everywhere.

In the front window as you enter you will see probably one of the oldest Nativity scenes in Tucson. It was handcrafted in Austria around 1880 and brought to America in the early 1900s by the George P. Driscoll family. Mr. Driscoll was the Postmaster General during the Teddy Roosevelt Presidency.  Each piece of the Nativity set was first created by the artist designing a heavy gauge wire frame skeleton and applying plaster of Paris and then sculpted the final design.

Throughout the restaurant, there is a treat for the eyes everywhere. The Complete Snow Village of Charles Dickens is along one wall, soft sculptures of Santa, and other Christmas characters are almost everywhere. A handcrafted Merry-Go-Round rests on top of the long bar, Christmas lights are throughout the entire restaurant with its Christmas colored linen table coverings.

If you long for the real feeling of Christmas you must experience this collection.  On Christmas Eve they have probably one of the most unique happenings in Tucson. Roasted Chestnuts on an open fire, and at a particular time of the evening ALL the lights are turned off and only candle lights are used as the entire restaurant sings Christmas Carols. The Menu for this evening is turkey, homemade tamales, Navy bean soup and prime rib. This has been an O’Shaughnessy tradition for over 30 years.

If you want to escape to a fairytale land this Christmas season without leaving Tucson, I suggest you visit this restaurant sometime during the holidays.  It is the only place in Tucson with talented singing waiters and waitresses. ALL the employees must be able to sing to work here.  A unique experience.

Fantastic!  We’ve never been there, but now it is definitely on the list. What an amazing Christmas art display.

When you visit you will be amazed at the collection of Christmas art objects they have collected over the years. What I have shown is only a small amount of the total on view. Even the Magic Carpet Bull out front of the restaurant has lights on its horns.

I think  my pal Tom Dorgan and I spent the better part of the 80”s singing and hob nobbing at O”Shaughnessy’s. It was worth it! I think we are overdue for a visit.  Mic Patrick Brewer

      Mike,
I suggest you visit during these holidays. There is real Christmas magic in the restaurant this time of year. I’m booked for Christmas Eve. It sounds like it will be a Norman Rockwell type Christmas event with roasted chesnuts and good food and Christmas carols. Brings back memories of childhood.

My Irish children Heather and Ryan will be here for the holidays, we will attempt to stop by.
