Award winning saxophonist Mindi Abair brings her supercharged mix of pop, soul, jazz and seductive vocals into the realm of the extraordinary in a live performance at JW Marriott Starr Pass Saturday April 17th.
Joining Abair is an exciting force on the contemporary jazz scene, Brian Simpson. He is a celebrated keyboardist and musical director for superstar artists such as Dave Koz and Janet Jackson. Both Simpson and Abair share a major influence in their professional lives. Mindi’s sax playing style is reminiscent of popular jazz saxophonist Dave Kos who helped produce her first CD while Simpson has served as musical director for Kos for the past 10 years
Voted Best New Artist at the 2003 Smooth Jazz Awards; and one of only a few female saxophonists in the music world, Mindi Abair, along with the Brian Simpson band look forward to their first time appearance in Tucson. Abair also hosts a popular nationally syndicated radio show (Chill With Mindi Abair). Her recent album “Stars” is a combination of contemporary jazz and Top 40 torch songs that exudes her unabashed optimism. With her heavy emphasis on the sounds of R&B and dance music as well as pop and rock, her jazz tunes defy categorization, attracting many new listeners to the genre.
Although most clearly defined as a jazz musician, she cut her teeth playing the saxophone for pop superstars the Backstreet Boys. When Adam Sandler received the MTV Movie Awards’ lifetime achievement honor, he called on Mindi Abair to sing with Sandler “The incredible response to both the song and the album ‘It’s All Good’ was a tremendous validation of all I had been working toward,” he says. “
Mindi Abair will be sharing the big screen next year with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in a movie called Just Go With It. Abair, plays herself as a wedding band member in the movie. Celebrated for her feisty playing and ability to crank up the energy Abair’s live show on Saturday, April 17 – 7:30 p.m. promises to deliver a blockbuster experience.
Abair’s concert at the JW Marriott Starr Pass resort will debut songs from her new CD, In High Fi Stereo, due to be released on June 1. Abair is also featured in the April issue of Tucson Lifestyle Magazine. Both Simpson and Abair perform to sold out audiences worldwide and concert attendees can expect a unique blend of contemporary grooves with soul-jazz flavors.
