by Charles Spillar on Apr. 15, 2010, under arts, Tucson ArtThis Saturday night April 17 Arizona Opera in partnership with the 4th Avenue Merchants Association is hosting Outrageous Fun on 4th – “X-Marks the Spot! A Scavenger Hunt for Pirate’s Booty.” The historic avenue will be alive as teams of treasure seekers in a desperate race against the clock seek to uncover the secret locations of the hidden cache. Opera singers will serenade them in their quest.
The adventure begins and ends with spirited appetizers and lively grog at two popular 4th Avenue businesses, Delectables and Sky Bar. Teams of five participants will follow the clues on a treasure map to find buried loot along 4th Avenue. The hidden items hold special meaning to Arizona Opera and its history. Each treasure seeker on the winning team will win a ransom’s worth of Italian themed prizes.
The chase starts at 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the pirate hideaway Delectables 533 N. 4th Avenue. Guests will be grouped in teams of five, supplied with treasure maps, and then set out into the night in search of their fortune. The clues will lead the treasure seekers to participating 4th Avenue businesses where opera related items are buried. Teams will return with their loot to the notorious pirate den Sky Bar 536 N. 4th Avenue by 9:00 p.m. The Pirate Queens will tally each team’s plunder and announce the winner.
Proceeds benefit Arizona Opera’s statewide education and outreach programs and main stage productions. Arizona Opera is a professional opera company, which produces fully-staged opera performances, concerts, an in-school touring production and education and outreach programs that reaches to over 45,000 schoolchildren and adults annually.
