Famed Guitarist Marc Antoine

French-born MARC ANTOINE has been hailed by fans around the globe as one of the greatest jazz fusion guitarists on the planet.  Performing with the likes of Basia, Sting, Dave Koz, Chris Botti, Jeff Lorber, Larry Carlton and others, his career boasts numerous awards and #1 hits on the R&R contemporary jazz charts. In a rare U. S. appearance he will be joined by the great SHAHNAS brothers in Tucson this coming Saturday.

Despite almost losing the use of his left hand, Antoine makes the most difficult of flamenco, classical and jazz licks sound easy.  His intense performances are described as “melodic thunder” transporting listeners to extraordinary and exotic places. Fans can expect to be taken to the edge.

Antoine’s career was sidelined in the summer of 1981 when the family dog jumped up to greet him causing him to fall through a glass door. The shattered glass severed nerves and tendons cutting his left wrist to the bone. After going through extensive surgery and the surgeon telling him that he may never play again, he went through three years of rigorous rehabilitation.  When he thought he was ready he went back to the surgeon and played his guitar for him, overwhelming the doctor. Antoine states: “The experience made me a better player as I learned the difference from having technical skills and playing from the soul.”

Joining Antoine is the dynamic duo collectively known as SAHNAS (also known as two-fifths of the jazz fusion band called TURNING POINT). Celebrating the release of their newest CD “Under the Covers Volume II” brothers Thano and Demitri Sahnas will debut a collection of timeless, melodic songs from the classic rock era along with a special tribute to some of the greatest Pop Classics ever written — all craftily arranged for Spanish Guitar with the signature Sahnas flair. The Guitar Brothers have enthralled thousands with their unique hybrid sound and entertaining, charismatic personalities.

The grand finale of the evening will culminate in an improvisational, magical jam by these three guitar wizards. Fans will watch these virtuosos spur one another on to heights of musical greatness. Marc’s ability to overcome the odds of never playing guitar makes his appearance all the more inspiring.

Antoine’s drive and discipline propelled him to become an extraordinary presence on the contemporary jazz scene resulting in a successful solo career, garnering numerous awards in the U.S. and Canada. Marc is nominated for the American Smooth Jazz Awards INTERNATIONAL ARTIST OF THE YEAR.  For Tucsonans this will be a rare opportunity to see a U. S. performance of this talented musician.
