This weekend October 13 & 14, the opportunity to learn how to build a kiln-fired figure out of Paper Clay is available to interested adults. The class is being taught by a real master of ceramic clay: Mary Arttoones, MFA, Maryland College of Art.
Since I personally have over 15 years of working with ceramics recognize a unique talent when I see it. Her works are seen in galleries and museums in the United States and collectors throughout the world. She is able to mix her paper clay ceramics with bronze attachments something I had never seen before.
She will be teaching students this weekend the fun and exhilaration of working directly from a model to produce a clay figure that can be fired. The class will be using strong, resilient and versatile Cone 10 Paper Clay. They will learn the technical tricks of various internal and external methods of support that help to create successful clay sculpture that will survive in the kiln.
You will learn proportions, about planes and shadows and symmetry and ways to make the sculpture you create express the feelings you want to exhibit. From beginner to advanced, students will learn unique skills not often taught.
The workshop will be taught at Toscana Studio and Gallery located at 9040 N Oracle Rd, Oro Valley, AZ …..The cost for the workshop October 13 & 14 is $350 plus a clay fee.
