Located in the Texas hill country is one of the finest collections of contemporary art in America. Upon returning from visiting my family in Louisiana and traveling to visit friends in Fredericksburg, Texas on the way back to Tucson I discovered a world class gem just outside Johnson City, Texas. It is the 140+ acres Benini Sculpture Ranch located in a beautiful area of the hill country with 360 degree views. Awesome is the best way to describe the ranch and the magnificent art that is located throughout.
Originally established in Central Florida in 1978 as Benini’s studio, this fine arts project has evolved into a facility that includes a 14,000 sq.ft. Studios Building with a fine arts library, exhibit galleries featuring 40 years of Benini’s paintings, and guest artists, as well as the Sculpture Ranch on the surrounding 140 acres. I highly recommend a visit to this unique property to anyone traveling through this area.
Below these sculpture photos are a few of Benini’s paintings and whereas they are beautiful in photos, it is best to see them in person to recognize the artistic genius of this artist.
The Benini Galleries and Sculpture Ranch is located in the Texas Hill Country, six miles west of Johnson City, about an hour’s drive from Austin and from San Antonio. The project is open for visitations from ten to six Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Mediterranean-like setting provides a showcase for contemporary talent as national and international artists are placing large-scale, contemporary sculpture on the grounds. Many of the sculptures are for sale. In the event of a preference for commissioned works, collectors can also work directly with the artists.
