Museum Art School Pottery & Sculpture Sale

The Spring Artisan’s Market is open starting today Friday, March 26 at the Tucson Museum of Art and will continue through Sunday March 28. Hours are 10:00AM -5:00 PM daily.  There are over 120 professional artisans showing this year. While visiting don’t miss a great opportunity for a real bargain by viewing the Museum’s Art School pottery & sculpture display just NORTH of the main museum grounds.

I was very impressed with the quality of work displayed by these students and know the prices they charge are a real bargain. If you are feeling a little pinched because of the economy then you will be happily surprised to examine these bargains from $5 – $250. Don’t be put off because it is called a student show as some of the students have been working there for over 15 years.

The Tucson Museum of Art’s ceramic school has been around for many years and offers classes for beginners and professionals covering wheel-throwing, sculpture, hand-building, glazing techniques and raku and stoneware firings. They have one of the best-equipped ceramic facility you can find.  The instructor, Janet Burner, has been teaching for over 35 years and is highly skilled.

The next Beginner Ceramics course will start April 10-May 1. Saturdays 10AM-12PM

Wheel Thrown Ceramics course dates are: April 5- May 23.  6:00-9:00PM

A Ceramics Forum, for ceramic artists with experience, begins April 5-May 27.  Thursdays 6:00-9:00PM

Included in class fees there is Open Studio time allowing students to work autonomously with access to the Ceramics Studio facilities. Classes include approximately 15 hours of Open Studios time.

If you have ever priced a large kiln, pottery wheel, or glazes you will realize how much a bargain these classes really are. A few of the larger kilns they have, allowing for larger works, will cost over $10,000 each.
