F.A.C.E. Exhibition Poster

A special second opening of the Female Art Club/Education organization from the University of Arizona is having the second half of their exhibition at the Flux Gallery located in the Palomino Shopping Center this Saturday.

The first half of their exhibition is still on exhibit at the Stone Dragon Studio near Speedway and Stone. See previous article.

The Female Art Club and Education of the University of Arizona is a student-run organization that aims to foster the development of emerging female student artists.

The organization educates on the business aspects of being a professional artist while facilitating an environment that encourages the growth of an artist’s own personal style.

This juried exhibition, “In This Moment,” will display new works by university students, faculty, and local and professional artists.

In addition, members of the jury and a selected group of invitational artists will have their art on display as well.

The theme of the exhibition, “In This Moment”, reflects the feelings and thoughts of the artist in the moment of the artwork’s creation.

Paintings, sculpture, photography, and wood-turned vessels by Flux Gallery’s regular artists will be on display as well.

Poster for Primavera Foundation Benefit

Flux Gallery is hosting two benefits this weekend. The first, on Friday, January 21, will benefit the Primavera Foundation and the second, on Saturday, January 22, will benefit the Ben’s Bells Project.

Featured at both will be the art of Peter Eisner, Carol Ann, Katherine Minott, Lee Roy Beach, Maurice Sevigny, Shirley Wagner, and Lynne Yamaguchi, with 30 percent of sales of the artwork going to 
the organizations.

The mission of the Primavera Foundation is to provide pathways out of poverty through safe, affordable housing, workforce development, and neighborhood revitalization. It addresses the systemic causes of homelessness by providing a continuum of services designed to move people out of poverty and into a self-sustaining life. These services include: street-level outreach, drop-in services, emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent affordable housing, workforce 
development, financial education, homeownership opportunities, and neighborhood revitalization.

Poster for Ben's Bells Benefit Exhibition

The Ben’s Bells Project begun by Ben’s family to commemorate Ben’s sudden death at age two, has as its mission is “to inspire, educate and motivate each other to realize the impact of intentional kindness and to empower individuals to act according to that awareness, thereby changing our world.” Website http://www.bensbells.org/

Ben’s Bells are beautiful ceramic wind chimes, crafted and assembled by hand by people all over Tucson and beyond. By the time a Ben’s Bell is assembled, at least ten people have worked on it, making it a true community effort. Ben’s Bells are not for sale. Twice a year, hundreds of Ben’s Bells are hung randomly in public places around Tucson and beyond, with a written message to simply take one home and pass on the kindness. The only way to get a Ben’s Bell is to find one or to be “Belled.” To date, more than 17,510 Ben’s Bells have been released. 

The point? To remind people how much power they have each day to make the world a better place simply by being kind.
