NEW ART COLONY COMMUNITY FORMING IN TUCSON

Building housing the Cube Colony

An exciting new colony of artists are now being established in a central location in Tucson. It is being called the “Cube Colony” and is located on the corner of Stone Ave. and University Ave.

The colony is located in a newly converted building that at one time many years ago had been a neighborhood drug store. The rents appear to be some of the best in town for creative artist spaces particular for the amenities it offers.  The location is exceptional since it is but a few blocks from 4th Ave., walking distance to downtown Tucson, close to Pima Community College and about 8 blocks from the University of Arizona.

Unlike many of the artist studios I have visited. this one has air conditioning, Wi-fi, water, gas, electricity and free parking all included in the rent.  It has a great “break room”, access to a microwave, refrigerator, ADA approved bathrooms, bi-monthly cleaning service, and a shady relaxing patio to converse and get fresh air.  The building offers a 24 hour electronic security access.

This new facility offers a lot to creative artists of all venues. Because of the indoor environment some art forms are not allowed such as welding, wood working, etc.  Since I personally have been involved in a creative space like this one, I highly recommend it.  Working with other creative people in a community environment is very stimulating and rewarding. In the future they will offer open studio to help sell your work as agreed upon by the artists involved.

Once a year there will be a Colony Art Camp which gives back to the community by hosting fine art days for kids 12-14. They had their first one June 4 -8 of this year.
