Bring the whole family for a night of adventure, imagination and entertainment under the stars, when Valley of the Moon shows a great motion picture, The Neverending Story in their amphitheater.

The Neverending story is a tale of the powers of imagination and kindness. Bastian Bux, a quiet boy who loves to read, is accosted by bullies on his way to school. He hides in a bookstore and begins reading. The book describes the fantasy world of Fantasia which is being threatened by a force called “The Nothing,” a void of darkness that consumes everything. Suddenly, Bastian finds himself face to face with the Empress, who reveals that The Nothing has consumed all but one grain of sand from Fantasia!!! However, Bastian’s wishes and imagination can help to restore the world to its former glory. Will Bastion’s imagination be strong enough?

The films shows Saturday, March 5 at 6:30PM. Admission is free. $4 suggested donation per person. Food and snacks will be available. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and a friend. 2544 East Allen Rd. north of Prince Rd. and east of Tucson Blvd. Admission donations will help to restore some of the areas of this fantasyland for future generations. If you have never been, you are in for a real treat. If fairies and gnomes exist, they will be at this historic park.

Follow Alice and the White Rabbit into Wonderland on a fantastic journey to meet the Cheshire Cat and the Caterpillar in Valley of the Moon’s production of Tales of Alice in Wonderland on Sept 4th at 7:30 PM. The production is based upon the classic story. Admission is Free.

Valley of the Moon Players in Alice In Wonderland Production (Photo by Richard Thomas)

Tucson’s historic Valley of the Moon was created by George Phar Legler in the 1920’s as a fantasyland for children of all ages 2-80. As many Tucsonans know it is a very special place where your imagination is stimulated and one feels they were transported to a magical fairyland occupied by Gnomes and flying fairies. The park is two and one-half acres of winding paths, secret gardens, mythic statues, and stone fairy houses and its performances take place throughout the park.

The Old Stump & Visitors at Valley of the Moon (Photo by Richard Thomas)

IF you haven’t been there recently you will notice some very exciting changes. You will see the relocated sculptures from the closed Magic Carpet Golf property. The Pygmy Hut, The Castle, The Old Stump and The Spider Web are now concreted into their permanent location and beautifully landscaped in the front part of the park.

Over 150 various plants and trees have been planted to add a special beauty to the already magical atmosphere The amphitheater has been replanted and is now a beautiful green lawn available for various outdoor functions once again in front of the performance area. It can accommodate over 200 people.

Visitors at Valley of the Moon Amphitheater (Photo by Richard Thomas)

Can you imagine anything more exciting than being married in a magical place like this? It is now encouraging weddings, birthday parties, company functions, and special events.

Valley of the Moon Players in Costume (Photo by Richard Thomas)

.

Since 1923, Valley of the Moon has been spreading the message “Kindness to All is the Golden Key to Happiness!” If you haven’t experienced the Valley of the Moon’s magic yet then it’s time to take the family and escape into this safe magical world. The FREE performance this Saturday is a great time to do this. You won’t be disappointed.

The park is still going through major renovations and has a need now for professional electrical help. They have recently filled in a portion of the caves that had become a problem causing the path to the Enchanted Garden be closed. It will re-open next year. The performing area in front of the Eerie Tower, has been repaired and has a new lighting system installed. The Valley of the Moon is run totally by volunteers and has no paid staff so they are always in need of volunteers and donations.

For more information about this performance or for park rental information visit http://www.tucsonvalleyofthemoon.com or call 520-323-1331. Valley of the Moon is located at 2544 East Allen Road, just north of Prince Rd. and Tucson Blvd.

Tucson’s historic Valley of the Moon is having a Magical Garden Party Saturday, May 8th and the public has been invited. The reason for the party is to let the public see all the major renovations that have taken place this last year. Two years ago the public feared that the children’s fantasyland might have to close. This party is to let them know that the MOON is really shining once again.

Historic sculpture at Valley of the Moon

The historical park was created by George Phar Legler in the 1920’s as a fantasyland for children of all ages 2-80. As many Tucsonans know it is a very special place where your imagination is stimulated and one feels as if they were transported to a magical fairyland occupied by Gnomes and flying fairies. Can you imagine anything more exciting than being married in a magical place like this? It is now encouraging weddings, birthday parties, company functions, and special events.

Performance at Amphitheater Valley of the Moon

The park is 2 and half acres of winding paths, secret gardens, mythic statues, and stone fairy houses, and will be open to the public Saturday, May 8 for viewing and photo opportunities. Admission is free. Wedding and party planners are encouraged to attend to see the magic that you have been missing.

Grass Amphitheater looking North

It will be an opportunity for visitors to see the relocated sculptures from the closed Magic Carpet Golf property. The Pygmy Hut, The Castle, The Old Stump and The Spider Web are now concreted into their permanent location and landscaped in the front part of the park. Over 150 various plants and trees have been planted and has added a much needed “green” to the atmosphere. The amphitheater has been replanted and is now a beautiful green lawn available for various outdoor functions once again.

Magic Carpet Spider Tree at Valley of the Moon (Scene when used for Alice and Wonderland production recently)

Since 1923, Valley of the Moon has been spreading the message that Kindness to All is the Golden Key to Happiness. In 2008 over 30% of the park was closed and many of the original works of George Legler have not been open to the public and are still in need of renovation. Valley of the Moon is still pursuing funding to restore these and renting out their facilities is one way of getting the necessary funds to do this.

Magic Carpet Castle at Valley of the Moon

On Saturday, May 8th from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM the public will be poured up an afternoon of delight and enjoy hors d’oeuvres at this magical kingdom unlike any other in Tucson or the world for that matter. Admission is FREE.

For more information visit http://www.tucsonvalleyofthemoon.com or call 520-323-1331. Valley of the Moon is located at 2544 East Allen Road, just north of Prince Rd. and Tucson Blvd. is an Arizona Historic Site.

Tucson’s historic Valley of the Moon is continuing its 36th annual Halloween show at the famous fantasyland this month. It started on October 14 and will continue up until October 30. The reviews from visitors I talked with have been impressive. This year’s performance is titled Magic Carpet Chaos at the Haunted Ruins

The EVIL ONE! Photo by (halfpricecarboncredits.com)

The Evil One has returned and his minions are trying to hijack the new Magic Carpet Land from the Genie. Will the Wizard and the Genie have enough power to stop him? Return to the land of fairies and gnomes and embark on a mystical adventure armed with nothing more than your Magic Stone to help protect you and the Valley of the Moon from the forces of evil. The play is spooky but not frightening to younger children.

Three Witches scene from Magic Carpet Chaos at the Haunted Ruins ( Photo by halfpricecarboncredits.com)

As with all productions at the Valley of the Moon visitors follow a costumed tour guide winding their way throughout the enchanted park. This years fundraising event is one of the most unique ever performed at the fantasyland and includes performances at the newly arrived Magic Carpet statues and the recently restored grassy amphitheater.

Newcomers and return visitors to this historic park will be amazed at the transformation that has taken place in the past year. The four new sculptures from the closed Magic Carpet; Pygmy Hut, Old Stump, Spider Tree and the Castle, add a new magical fantasy to the front section of the park.

On September 12, the 40+ Days of Caring volunteers did wonders in beautifying the historic property by planting over 100 trees and flowers and new grass sod in the amphitheater. This is the first grass there in over 10 years and will now allow the Valley of the Moon to once again open for weddings, birthday parties and special events. The entire property is being converted to solar lighting and phase one was completed prior to this event.

Magic Carpet Pygmy Hut illuminated.
The proceeds from this year’s Halloween fundraiser will go to restore some of the historic structures presently closed to the public. The most popular “Enchanted Garden,” a highlight of the founder George Phar Legler’s creations, is scheduled to be the first to be restored when funding is available. This year’s Halloween show has over 50 unpaid volunteers dedicated to keeping the tradition of George Phar Legler alive and his message of kindness to all.

The remaining performance dates for this week are October (21), 22, 23, 24, 25, and next week (28), 29 and 30. The Valley of the Moon is never open Halloween night. Show times are 6:30 – 9:00 PM nightly. Tours leave the gate every 30 minutes. Admission: Adults $7, Kids 7-13 $5, and 6 & under free. On Wednesdays the 21st & 28th admission is 2 cans of food for the food bank and only $3 Adults and $2 Kids 7-13. Helping the food bank has been a tradition for the last 36 years.

Valley of the Moon is located at 2544 E. Allen Rd, Tucson, AZ. More information at the Halloween event can be viewed at :http://www.tucsonvalleyofthemoon.com or by calling 520-323-1331.

The Valley of the Moon is having a one-night show this Saturday, June 20 titled MOONSTRUCK. This fun event is for the whole family to enjoy and they will get to see the great things happening at this historic children’s park. The 85-year-old Moon is definitely rising again!

Valley of the Moon is a unique area built by George Phar Legler in the 1920s for the purpose of appealing to the magical imagination of children. Mineralized rock cliffs, caves, pools, and garden miniatures have blended with tropic and desert flora to create this amazing place for children and families. The park exhibits some of the real Folk Art of the early 20th Century hand crafted by the late Mr. Legler.

“We are hoping with this event to show the community the exciting improvements we are making in the park and what is needed to complete our restoration efforts. It is also about experiencing the magic created by its founder and enjoying family fun”, stated Randy Van Nostrand, President of the Valley of the Moon.

The Tucson community has really been opening its heart to this children’s fantasyland. The architectural firm of Burns/Wald-Hopkins/Shambach have given them advise on priorities for restoration, Brad Haber of Sonoita has assembled a group to donate necessary materials for the building of a new troll bridge, new volunteers have come forward to help convert some of the parks lighting to solar.

Last week, Darling, Environmental & Surveying, Ltd created a detailed site map of the entire property and of its complex features and blessed the Moon with a donation of its services. They used HDS technology (high definition 3-D laser scanning technology). The end result can be viewed and navigated like a 3-D model. Conventional mapping of the property could have taken months. Darling did it in 14 hours. People in Paris, Moscow & around the world will soon be able to visit the historic park via their website and take a 3-D tour. This high tech procedure will save countless hours and thousands of dollars for restoring historic stuctures in the future.

New grass will be planted in the Moon’s amphitheater in the next few months and they will once again be renting their facilities this fall for weddings, birthdays, commercial shoots, etc. The income received will help to finance the restoration of the closed historic sites unavailable for the public to visit presently. Five statues from the closed Magic Carpet Golf property will arrive at the Moon within the next few weeks and will be located in the front portion of the acreage.

Bring the whole family as you follow Princess Rosemary in the search for the “golden key to happiness” down the winding paths and enchanted gardens for this free show. Costumes are encouraged on this one-night only show Saturday, June 20th from 7:30PM till 9:30PM. Tours leave the gate every 30 minutes. ADMISSION IS FREE!. Address: 2544 E. Allen Road. North of Prince on Tucson Blvd. to Allen Rd. YOU will leave being “Moonstruck!” More details at?: http://www.tucsonvalleyofthemoon.com
