Again, your scenario is highly unlikely, particularly since warheads of any provenance, Russian or otherwise, require maintenance at least once a year to replace the fissile material, otherwise there's no explosion beyond whatever is used to detonate the core. And since the IAEA keeps tabs on every known or possible source of radioactive material, this makes said maintenance near-impossible for anyone outside official channels. The best any terror organization could hope for at this point would be collecting spent medical isotopes for a "dirty" bomb, which would spread fear but not much else.

BTW, if by Al Qaeda "changing tactics" you are referring to the story this past month about the CIA double-agent in Yemen, that story has all the hallmarks of the usual Pentagon/E-Ring propaganda machine. If referring to the "underwear bomber" of a few years ago, you should be aware that Umar Farouk al Mutallab was allowed to circumvent all the usual security measures at the Amsterdam airport to perpetrate his crime after being brought to the airline ticket counter by what eyewitness Kurt Haskell described as a "sharp-dressed Indian businessman" and allowed to board the plane with no passport, using a ticket bought by a never-identified third party using cash. The airport even had body scanners and the bomber was allowed on the plane without ever once being sent through them. Why? How? Qui bono?

http://haskellfamily.blogspot.com/2011/09/colossal-deceit-known-as-underwear.html

I think we can agree that before adding new layers of security to a plethora of them, we should use the measures already in place. We should also not be so trusting of the things our govt. tells us to accept those new layers.

Senator John McCain.Senator for about 27 years. Jim Kolbe, Congressman for about 17 years. Immigration issue, in office since the founding of the State and our distaste for Chinese and Japanese. Ride up to Mt Lemon and stop and read the memorial to George Hirabachi,(sp?) All the mines and railroads in Arizona were built with Irish, Welsh, and Chinese labor. for British investors! Homes for Generals in Sierra Vista, all built with proud and highly skilled Mexican labor. The Generals used to brag amongst each other about how they got the best tile setter around. And now...show us how many home builders have been fined in the last ten years. Really, show us. The names and the amount of the fines. It is public record. Give the candidates a homework assignment to anchor them in reality. A great way to vet a candidate would be to ask them to show you their library check out record.

Agree with the first half - we absolutely need a guest worker program. There's thousands of jobs in agriculture and elsewhere that American citizens can't or won't do and pay low wages. Think of how much resources would be freed up for the Border Patrol not having to chase down thousands for folks crossing the border just to pick lettuce.

But there were several more 9/11 terrorists who were supposed to join the others but couldn't get a visa. And AL Qaeda is constantly changing tactics. Say they got their hands on one of the thousands of old Soviet nuclear warheads and wanted to set it off in a US city. Highly unlikely they could get it across US customs, but bribing Mexican officials to get it into Mexico and sneak across the border? Much easier.

Those who oppose illegal immigration should be working to make it easier to come here, not harder, for just the reasons you described (safety and security). And BTW, the Abdullah from Yemen scenario is utter tripe as the only ones who've ever allegedly stuck us came here through proper channels.
