In the past few years loan scams and mortgage fraud have been huge problem in Arizona. This recently launched Web site, www.preventloanscams.org, is an excellent resource for consumers if you think you may have been a victim of a loan scam, or if you just want more information on the subject. Inside you’ll find a list of convicted loan scammers in every state, links to local and state law enforcement and Better Business Bureaus’, and general advice on how to protect yourself.
The Web site, gives the following information about its origins, and its mission :
“Loan Modification Scam Prevention Network
In the midst of the current economic turmoil and foreclosure crisis, millions of distressed homeowners have become vulnerable targets to unscrupulous and sometimes criminal third-party scammers, con-artists, and thieves. As a result, a coordinated national campaign, the Loan Modification Scam Prevention Network was created to strengthen the fight against these scammers and support existing efforts at the national, state and local levels.
The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law
The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, was formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy to involve the private bar in providing legal services to address racial discrimination. The principal mission of the Lawyers’ Committee is to secure, through the rule of law, equal justice under law. As a leader of the Loan Modification Scam Prevention Network (Network), the Lawyers’ Committee administers the www.PreventLoanScams.org website, and leads the enforcement and data collection efforts for the Network.”
