Bear Down…and Blog!

Current and former University of Arizona athletes are always making news and not always in traditional mediums. We scoured the Internet and found Wildcats online by visiting these lynx

Traveling on the basketball court is a bad thing. Traveling to get to a basketball court can be a great thing. Nic Wise can now be considered a world-class basketball traveler. The former Arizona Wildcat point guard inked a deal on Friday to play for Saint Thomas Basket (STB) Le Havre, a Pro A division team in France’s Ligue Nationale de Basketball.

After graduating from the UA in 2010, Wise headed to Germany last season to play for Telekom Baskets Bonn where he averaged more than 14 points per game.

Said Wise Via Twitter:

“SIGNED ON THE DOTTED LINE! Its official yall, God is good! France baby”

“Anybody know French?”

BURNS: EXCELLENT

Cleveland Indians fans should familiarize themselves with the name Cory Burns. The former Wildcat nailed down his 30th save of the season for the Akron Aeros on Aug. 3 to set the new single-season mark for an Indians’ Double-A affiliate. He’s since upped his mark to 31.

The Tribes recent trade of minor league hurlers RHP Joe Gardner, LHP Drew Pomeranz and RHP Alex White to Colorado for Ubaldo Jimenez might have just opened a clear path for Burns to the Bigs.

Burns was an eighth-round draft pick for Cleveland in the 2009 draft.

While Nic Wise continues his playing career in France, another former Wildcat point guard is furthering his career on the sidelines. Jason Gardner agreed last week to become an assistant coach at Loyola University Chicago.

Gardner spent last season coaching Cathedral High School in his hometown of Indianapolis. Wise, spent much of his post-Wildcat career playing on the hard courts of Germany.
