Trevor Hoffman no longer stands alone atop baseball’s all-time saves leader board. Mariano Rivera tied Hoffman on Saturday after notching his 601st career save in a 7-6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
The University of Arizona alum held the record since Sept. 7 of 2010. Hoffman called it a career at the end of that campaign and had his No. 51 jersey retired by the San Diego Padres in August.
Rivera now has 12 games left in the season to surpass Hoffman.

Former Wildcat Shelley Duncan is never one to hide his emotions. Often times, it’s gotten him in trouble.
On September 14, however, the flabbergasted look on Duncan’s face said it all after the Cleveland Indians’ slugger hauled in three straight catches that required him to leap against the outfield wall.
Duncan is hitting .269 with 9 home runs this season for the Tribe, where he is a teammate with former Wildcat Trevor Crowe.
Duncan’s brother Chris, played five years in the Majors with the St. Louis Cardinals and hit 55 home runs. Last year he played with Triple-A Syracuse, an affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
Chris, a Tucson native who bypassed college, had this to say of his little brother’s theatrics via Twitter:
“Taught Shelley everything he knows about defense in left field. I’ve been working with him, looks like it’s paying off lol! Holy webgem”
