Bear Down…and Blog!
Current and former University of Arizona athletes are always making news and not always in traditional mediums. We scoured the Internet and found Wildcats online by visiting these lynx…
It’s difficult to imagine that a player who has appeared in a mere four games in his career can be considered a journeyman. Meet Fendi Onobun.
The Buffalo Bills inked the former Arizona Wildcat basketball player to their active roster on Friday to play tight end. For the affable Onobun, it’s his fifth NFL team since being selected by the St. Louis Rams in the 2010 Draft.
Onobun appeared in one game this season for the Jacksonville Jaguars, catching no passes. In three games for the Rams in 2010, Onobun had 15 yards on two catches — the same amount of grabs he had at the University of Houston, where he transferred after his days on the hardwood in Tucson.
This year he’s also spent time on the practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins.
SAID ONOBUN VIA TWITTER:
“I swear there has to be some record I’ve set 5th helmet 1 season…. Lol nonetheless blessed & thankful 4 the job #PRAISEHIM Hello Buffalo!”
Onobun is the second former Wildcat annexed to the Bills’ active roster in less than two weeks. Buffalo added defensive lineman Lionel Dotson on Nov. 3o to replace the injured Torell Troup.
Gilbert Arenas is often the one pleading for amnesty from the NBA after myriad run-ins with the league, teammates and, even, the law. On Friday, nine days before the tip-off of the abbreviated 2011-12 season, the Orlando Magic declared amnesty on the former Arizona Wildcat guard.
Under the new collective bargaining agreement, a team can utilize a one-time “amnesty” option to jettison a contract from its salary cap and luxury tax. Arenas still had three years and $62 million left to go on his six-year, $111-million deal — a lot of coin owed to a player who averaged 8 points and 3.2 assists last season for the Magic and Washington Wizards.
Perhaps Arenas has spent too little time on the court and too much energy engaging in the art of planking…

Former Wildcat swim sensation Lacey Nymeyer — known now as Lacey John — the will give the commencement address at this winter’s graduation. For those of you grads wishing to toss your mortarboard to a more recognizable Grand Canyon State icon (think Lute Olson, John McCain and/or Sheriff Joe Arpaio), give a quick listen to Nymeyer’s achievements.
Nymeyer followed up a silver medal in the 400-meter free relay at the 2008 Olympics by earning 2009 NCAA Woman’s Athlete of the Year honors.
The Tucson native was crowned an All-American 26 times and at one time held NCAA, American, U.S. Open and world records. The accolades stretch on from there.
Arizona will host its Winter Commencement at 9.30 a.m.on Dec. 17 in McKale Center.
How does the University of Arizona squeeze 7,196 rabid Wildcat fans into one place at the same time? Easy. They do it on Facebook. You don’t have to be a student to get updates, news and a general sounding board for the Wildcat athletics student section.
