Renaming Arizona basketball’s Angelo Chol

by on Feb. 20, 2012, under Sports

You know you’ve arrived on the scene when you earn a nickname.

Angelo Chol has certainly been called many different names this season by PAC-12 foes who have unwittingly driven to the hoop and into the Arizona big man’s path.

The shot-blocking specialist has swatted a 23 shots on the season, 15 in conference play – both team highs.

How a 6-foot, 9-inch- Sudanese Goliath, who ranks second all-time in the history of high school basketball for blocks and second in California state history in career rebounds, eludes a moniker is an enigma.

So it’s time to anoint Chol a handle. Help us decide…

In full disclosure, TucsonCitizen.com’s Anthony Gimino came up with “En-Chol-Lada.” If you don’t like it, let him hear it at AG’s Wildcat Report.

Chol Train should have made the cut. Hands down the best. Imagine the UA crowd doing the Chollllllll Train! chant after every block or dunk.

I’m with you, Mark. What a natural chant. Talking about something that would resonate with basketball fans all over the country. As the Impressions used to sing: “You got Chol. And everybody knows. That it’s all right. Whoa, it’s all right.” Well, anyway, I wish you: Peace. Love. And Cholllll!

Are you kidding me? Everyone in the student section knows its the Chol Toll, You got to pay the Chol Toll if you want to get in.

    • Ernie_McCray

So there’s no room in the student section, after the Chol Toll has been paid, for a little Trolllll Trainnnnn funkiness, no Bearing Down and Getting Down at the same time (smile)?

    23 blocks?

    That’s all?

If he had 50 blocks right now he might be
    deserving of a nickname.

    Go Wildcats!
