Happy Birthday from London: Breaking down Olympic birthdays
There’s one song being played at the XXX London Olympics more than any other ditty — more than the anthem’s of gold-medal leaders China and the United States combined.

Arizona’s Alyssa Anderson earns Wildcats’ first gold medal
British cuisine needs no introduction to the bland taste buds of the world. The best thing to bite in London these days is your gold medal, to test if it’s real.

Arizona’s Simon Burnett retires from swimming after Olympic shortfall
For Simon Burnett, the latter proved true on Monday in a pool some 45 miles east of his hometown.
For the University of Arizona alum, his career is now over.
Burnett, 29, called it a career on Tuesday, leaving a wake that won’t soon be forgotten on either side of the pond – or pool, depending on how far you’d like to stretch the metaphor.

Tucson’s Matt Grevers sets Olympic backstroke mark, Thoman takes Silver
When Matt Grevers returns home from London, his bags and résumé will be a little heavier.
The Old Pueblo resident and Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatic swimmer set a new Olympic record on Monday with a 52.16 second time in the 100m backstroke. The previous mark held by American Aaron Peirsol had stood since the 2008 Olympics.
According to Arizona Athletics, Thoman’s medal means the University of Arizona keeps its streak of medaling in the summer Olympics going. A Wildcat has stood atop the podium in every Olympics since 1968.
