Thomas sinks Arizona at buzzer, drowns Wildcats’ PAC-10 title hopes: In Their Own Words

Saturday, March 12th, 2011

Post-game interviews are boring. The best reactions come after the microphones, Polo shirts and repetitive questions have all exited the locker room.

Tell us what you really think, Wildcats.

Arizona’s Derrick Williams might have won the conference’s player of the year honors, but you get the feeling he’d trade it with Isaiah Thomas, the man he edged out for the award, in exchange for a PAC-10 tournament title. Thomas stuck a game-winning, buzzer-beater to down the Wildcats 77-75 on Saturday night in Los Angeles. Washington earns the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA tourney. Arizona will find out its post-season fate on Sunday when the field of 65 is announced.

The Arizona Wildcats are honoring a self-imposed “no Twitter” pact this weekend. Good for their concentration. Bad for those who rely on their post-game Tweets.

Luckily for us, the players are the only ones in Wildcat Nation staying silent.

Southern California’s Nikola Vucevic scored a game-high 25 points as the Trojans (16-12, 8-7 PAC-10) upset No. 10 Arizona (23-5, 12-3) by a 65-57 score in Los Angeles.

The Wildcats, who finished the night with a combined two assists, saw their eight-game winning streak snapped.

UCLA’s win over Arizona State on Thursday, cuts Arizona’s lead atop the PAC-10 to one game heading into Saturday’s showdown between the Wildcats and the Bruins.

Former PGA POTY’s Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk bounced from Accenture Match Play Championships

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Bear Down…and Blog!

Current and former University of Arizona athletes are always making news and not always in traditional mediums. We scoured the Internet and found Wildcats online by visiting these lynx

TIGER WOODS, FURYK BOUNCED FROM ACCENTURE MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Former UofA golfer Jim Furyk gazes at his 2010 PGA Tour Player of the Year trophy. Furyk, who was eliminated in the first round of the Accenture Match Play Championships, has seen better days on the golf course. Luckily for him, it's a very long season. Allan Henry-US PRESSWIRE

A former University of Arizona golfer will not win this year’s World Golf Championship-Accenture Match Play Championship held in the backyard of their old stomping grounds.

Nor will any past PGA Tour ‘Player of the Year’ winners – of which ex-Wildcat Jim Furyk is both.

Furyk (2010 PGA POTY), Tiger Woods (2009 and eight other times) and Padraig Harrington (2008) were all eliminated in first round action on Wednesday in Marana, Ariz.-tournament that pits the top 64 World Golf money earners against one another in a March Madness-style tourney.

Furyk, the No. 10 seed, lost his opening round match to Ryan Palmer (2 up). Woods, No. 3, saw his comeback fall short in an extra hole to No. 62 Thomas Bjorn. Harrington, No. 30, lost to former Match Play champ Geoff Ogilvy.

The former Wildcats’ PGA Player of the Year title defense has gotten off to a sluggish start. Furyk has made the cut in only two of the four tournaments he’s played in, and finished in the top-25 once.

.

While the top 64 World Golf money earners square off in the outskirts of Tucson, the balance of the PGA Tour is basking in the Mexican sun and sand traps at the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Riviera Maya-Cancun. That includes former Wildcats Robert Gamez, Ted Purdy and Rory Sabbatini.

“Sticks are finally thawing out for Cancun. I’m ready for some golf.”
