Arizona’s possible new slogans inspired by Jan Brewer

by on Sep. 03, 2010, under Random humor
Watching the Gubernatorial debates has inspired me. Jan Brewer’s amazing performance left me thinking, you know Arizona doesn’t need a whole lot that a good slogan can’t fix. In fact, if we just adopt a new slogan that is not as ambiguous as “the Grand Canyon State,”  I mean really that could be anywhere, all our problems would go away. People would realize that we are not ill-intentioned just misunderstood, and that our governor isn’t an imbecile but that’s just how we done did speak here, with long awkward pauses. So I took the liberty to come up with a few feel free to add your own.

Jan Brewer

Arizona where a good debate tactic is long awkward moments of silence.

Arizona where things CAN get worse.

Arizona where being 49th in education is a good thing.

Arizona where the Governor persecutes people with accents for their lack of English comprehension when she herself has yet to master the English language.

Arizona where Democrats look like Republicans.

Arizona doing what no other state has ever did.

Arizona even our congressman boycotts us.

Arizona the south of the west. They have Blacks we have Mexicans. They have Nathaniel Bedford Forrest we have Joe Arpaio. They have the Klan we have our legislature.

Arizona we won’t speak Spanish because English is hard enough.

Arizona is the new Alabama – (despite one TC blogger who claims otherwise).
Phoenix is Birmingham, Arpaio is Bull Conner.
And over in Cholla, where only conservatives can post  :
“Veterans want jobs, meaningful employment not an obstructionist who boycotts his own state and district. Mr Grijlava’s attempts to remove Mr Simpson from a bipartisan commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform is but another example of the Congressman’s inability to work with others to solve the desperate unemployment in CD-7.”
Even though the veterans here have posted in support of Congressman Grijalva, and in condemnation of the right wing ideologue Simpson.
Not that anyone can say so, of course, which is why I am forced to hijack your thread.
    Apologies.

tip, why don’t you ask Mark Evans for your own TC.com blog?  That way, you won’t have to hijack anyone’s thread.

Seriously.  Mark and Ryn are always looking for new bloggers.  You spend lots of time on these boards. Why don’t you go to Mark and Ryn and say to them “Hey, I’ve proved my dedication to the site—let me have my own blog.”

Even better—you can ban me from it!  :)

tip, why don’t you ask Mark Evans for your own TC.com blog?
        I have – I don’t think he likes me.
Even better—you can ban me from it
That is exactly why I asked :)

        • leftfield

Maybe we collectively could ask Mr. Evans to ban Ft. Buckley from posting on any other blog.  You know, sort of like sending a tantrum-throwing two-year-old to his room to cool off for a while.

I do not think if I ran a multimillion dollar business that I would hire Jan Brewer as my spokesperson. I wouldn’t want her as my lawyer in court. I wouldn’t hire her to represent me in anything. Why would I want her to be my governor? That debate was an eye-opener. She is not coherent. She doesn’t think. After the debate she was crabby to the reporters. Maybe independents in Arizona will reevaluate this strange woman who is our governor now. Let’s don’t keep her. Goddard looks much more competent. He understands the border is a problem. He is just more realistic.

    • fraser007

Ever give a public speech? Ever answer questions in a press conference? Dont think so…. We all know that she is not great in that department. Thats OK 21% fewer illegals in the state is a fine start. More self deporting every day. Hope they like NM and their old home in mexico. I could use the tax savings.

      • http://spanglishtoday-sonia.blogspot.com svivar9087

what tax savings…you got lawsuits 2 contend with !

        • fraser007

21% means a lot of money not being spent. Oh wow two lawsuits??

      • leftfield

Ever answer questions in a press conference?

No, but I’m not asking to be your next governor.

      • leftfield

You really should give it up, fraser.  You can’t polish a t**d and make it shine.  Even if she does win the election (and she might well), that will say more about the voters of Arizona than it will say about Jan Brewer.

        • Don

Well Left, if you think so poorly about the voters of Arizona, why are you here?

Could it be that you’re having too much fun taking the benefits of being an Arizona resident with one hand, while giving the state and its people the middle finger with the other?

          • leftfield

…having too much fun taking the benefits of being an Arizona resident…

Good one, Don.  Who says the right wing has no sense of humor?

    • Don

Why would I want her to be my governor?

Oh…perhaps because she’s really going to do something about the border.  Or at least try, if Washington doesn’t tie her hands too tightly.  Yeah, she stinks as a public speaker…but she’s got some steel in her spine.

Goddard looks much more competent. He understands the border is a problem. He is just more realistic.

Sorry…not interested in having any more Democrats in positions of power anytime soon.  Spending huge amounts of money they don’t have, plus being wishy-washy on security matters, are too deeply ingrained in the DNA of too many Democrats.

Republicans have plenty of free-spenders and earmarkers, too—that’s one reason they got turned out of power a few years ago.  But, IMO, the GOP has always had a stiffer spine when it comes to security matters.  Democrats seem much too concerned with how Ivy League and foreign elites will perceive them; that makes them soft when the time for steadfastness comes.

To be sure, there are exceptions on both sides.   There are Democrats who are serious about national security—Joe Lieberman comes to mind—and wishy-washy Republicans—-outgoing Senator (thank God) George Voinovich of Ohio.  Neverthless, IMO, the rules hold firm.

      • leftfield

but she’s got some steel in her spine.

I don’t think signing SB1070 was a monumental demonstration of political courage for her.  Public support for the bill was high.  The negative reaction was unexpected by the right wing, so it can’t be considered an act of bravery that she signed the bill in spite of some soresight that people all over the world would be saying, “What’s wrong with Arizona”?

that makes them soft when the time for steadfastness comes.

“Steadfastness” being defined as having the courage and the will to send someone else’s children to a place most of them couldn’t find on a map to attack a third world country and kill hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians for no apparent reason while lining the pockets of large private tyrannies.

        • Don

Leftfield, so this is what you REALLY think American Soldiers fight for?

for no apparent reason while lining the pockets of large private tyrranies.

No wonder you’re such a fan of “Winter Soldier.”

that people all over the world would be saying “What’s wrong with Arizona.”

People all over the USA support the kind of legal action Brewer and the state legislature are taking.  Personally, I value American opinion over that of people “all over the world.”  IMO there’s lots of ingratitude and outright silliness in the thinking of many foreigners.

          • leftfield

IMO there’s lots of ingratitude and outright silliness in the thinking of many foreigners.

Imagine that!   Is it that hard for you to understand why people resent being invaded so much?  I’m always amazed and relieved when I visit some countries that those folks are just “silly” enough not to equate me with the belligerent policies of the US regime.

In order to allay your befuddlement, why not just take some time and google something like “History of US military intervention”?  You’ll find a rather lengthy list; a list that is lengthy even without including such things as:

            mobilizations of the National Guard
            offshore shows of naval strength
            reinforcements of embassy personnel
the use of non-Defense Department personnel (such as the Drug Enforcement Administration)
            military exercises
non-combat mobilizations (such as replacing postal strikers)
the permanent stationing of armed forces
covert actions where the U.S. did not play a command and control role
the use of small hostage rescue units
            most uses of proxy troops
            U.S. piloting of foreign warplanes
            foreign or domestic disaster assistance
military training and advisory programs not involving direct combat
            civic action programs
            and many other military activities.

Afterwards, you might want to rethink how you define “silly”.

    Here’s a slogan I saw on a bumper sticker:

    ARIZONA: Armed and Uneducated

    • fraser007

      Something like the American Revolution??

      • Anarchopagan

        Thankfully, no.

  • Carolyn Classen

    Very funny as usual Arnie.
