I know I’ve been very inactive recently, mostly due to my daytime job and the freelance projects I have to turn in under deadline so the blog takes a back seat. Recently, I was alerted to a very important film showing here in the Old Pueblo. The film was done by local director Luis Carlos Davis and is being shown at different film festivals and has garnered plenty of attention due to the current political climate that we are currently in. The title: 389 Miles “Living the Border” .
The film will be screening at the University of Arizona at the Gallagher Theater September 8th. The film has already created plenty of buzz in several film festivals and won the Audience Award for Best Film at the Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival. Go enjoy and take a friend, a relative, a member of congress or your governor (Jan Brewer I’m talking to you). In fact, all jokes aside, if you are involved in government and are making laws about immigration it is your responsibiity to go see this film. Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives go get informed and check it out, if anything at least to see the human smuggler that conducts his interview in a Lucha Libre mask.
UPDATE: The showing will be at the Gallagher theater at the U of A on Wednesday September 8, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. and its absolutely free!!!!

I never thought I would see the day when Hannibal Lecter would be the father of all Norse gods. Yet the Hollywood gods prove to be more powerful and made it happen. Anthony Hopkins will appear as Odin in the upcoming Thor movie which so far from the promotional material looks good. Chris Hemsworth is playing Thor and Tom Hiddleston is Loki, thats the guy in the green cape below.

I just have two gripes: 1) Where the hell are the helmets? 2) The leather pants don’t mesh well with the classic look armor and cape. This may be attributed to the fact that they are trying to merge the regular continuity look with the Ultimate version of Thor, but it just doesn’t seem to work. See, they took the following two versions:

In order to come up with this.

Movie Thor
The result is a mish mash of the classic under armor, cape, and Mjolnir (the hammer) with the leather pants, beard, boots, glowing chest plates and helmetless look of the ultimate Thor. I know I’m jumping the gun and it may look great in the movie, but really why wear a cape unless he uses it to glide like Batman. It looks out of place. However, Marvel Studios has done great work so far so I a not too concerned. Ultimately, the goal is to merge the Hulk, Ironman, Captain America and Thor here in one big movie called The Avengers. We’ll see how this all plays out.

After a week of hearing, seeing and talking about how my state of birth has become an embarrassment to the nation and most of humanity I was looking forward to some good news. Fortunately, that came in the red and yellow pages of Invincible Ironman #25. Ironman has always been a pleasure to read and I was hooked ever since the Extremis story line, which not only debuted Adi Granov’s amazing art, but revamped the character in a significant way.
Moreover, the armor from Extremis was used as the basis for the costume design in the Robert Downey Jr. movie. So when it was announced that in issue #25 that Tony Stark was getting another upgrade I was stoked and I had to check it out. Aside form all the new twists in the story and the sick new way his armor comes on, the suit just looks awesome!!! It took some time to get used to the look due to the fact that I was a big fan of the more mechanical look of Adi Granov’s design. This went away real quick after reading issue 25. So for the uninitiated here is what that looks like:

In other news:
Not only did SB1070 tic lots of people off, it has also prompted one local cop to file a lawsuit against the state on the basis that this law can not be enforced with police neutrality. The police officer involved is one Martin H. Escobar, who aside from being one bad mutha on the streets of Tucson is also one bad mutha on the mat or ring or whatever place jiu-jitsu guys fight.

Now its obvious he’s Hispanic, but before any Minutemen or Jon Justice fans start accusing him of protecting illegals lets consider the fact that not only can this guy beat you senseless, but in every picture he’s in there’s an American flag behind him, I can’t think of anyone more patriotic than him. Well, except for maybe this guy:

In other news: Stephen Hawking just announced that there are aliens out there and they are gonna kill us!... or conquer us in the very least.
Its a good thing he made us aware of this, it’s only to be expected. Why would an advanced society that floats through space try to help us? You ever see humanity try to help a lesser species? The closest we get is taking our pets to the vet. In fact, if aliens are anything like us, they would probably come here and enslave us and put us in farms and raise us for food, like we do with cattle. Or for a lucky few of us, we would probably end up as their pets with leashes and collars around our necks, but hey, some people are already into that. Yet not all is lost, in Arizona we are fortunate enough to have provisions in place to protect our citizens from such treachery. In case of an alien encounter, our local law enforcement can now act and ask them to prove that they are not aliens. If they fail to do so they are promptly taken care of with our concealed weapons. So not to worry Dr. Hawking, we got your back.

I took an online quiz this week that said I was a left leaning Libertarian. I’m a registered Independent and if I had to be pigeon-holed into a party I would probably pick that one. I have never really agreed with Republicans and after meeting several Democratic politicians never really felt like I could be a Democrat, although I have an easier time agreeing with them than Republicans. I just have a hard time trusting politicians in general and don’t agree with the fact that most elections are about picking the lesser of two evils. Sometimes it feels like picking between the cleaner of two pigs.

Vote for me!!!

- Vote for me!!!
Because of these feelings I was rather pleased when I saw a post by my 8th grade social studies teacher on Facebook about the Judicialwatch.org realeasing their list of Washington’s “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians” for 2009. It’s an interesting read and kind of funny to see who made the list. Not surprising though, there are only a few politicians I actually respect and the rest are probably on this list after number 10.
In other news, Kick Ass the movie comes out next Friday 4/16/10 and I’m a little stoked and a little frightened. The comic book was really good and I have always been a fan of Mark Millar’s work. However, his last story that was made into a movie “Wanted” was a complete let down. The comic was so good and written to be a movie so it should have been easy to make, but sadly the result had almost nothing to do with the comic. Kick Ass looks very much like the comic, at least from the trailer but I am still a little concerned.
Regardless, I will still go see this if anything it should make for a good popcorn flick.
