McCain's speech: Waiting to exhaleAs I briefly mentioned in my initial blog, this blog was not meant to function as a mainstream news source, but rather to serve as a fun, insider view of my personal experiences as an AZ delegate, and the activities of the Arizona delegation here in Minneapolis. LATEST COMMENTWe can never forget Elvis but now we can never forget Palin either! Sep 4, 2008 @ 11:59am |
Forget Elvis, Palin is in the buildingThe Arizona delegation convened at the Qwest reception before the convention, and the anticipation was palpable. There was a feeling of Western solidarity with neighboring states of Colorado, California, and Nevada delegates also in attendance at the reception (along with Western apparel) . More » |

Boats and BrokawToday AZ delegates took a boat tour of the harbor and packed donation boxes at the Minneapolis convention center. Later, I loitered around the convention floor and saw Tom Brokaw, CNN’s Dana Bash, and Senator Trent Lott. Heard Brokaw and Jon Stewart are staying at the AZ delegation’s hotel, but haven’t seen them in the hotel bar (yet). There is a lot of anticipation and excitement among Arizonans for Governor Palin’s speech tonight. Activity around the area where the AZ delegation is staying has also increased tenfold. Demonstrators are out in full effect, with mother’s marching for healthcare alongside PETA advocates (shout out to my fellow vegetarians!) Qwest is sponsoring a reception for AZ delegates before tonight’s convention, sure to be widely watched. More » |

Security a priority at conventionToday the AZ delegation had the afternoon off. Walked around the area a bit and ran into some fellow Arizonans doing the same. MSNBC has set up a permanent reporting camp across from the St. Paul Hotel in a park where quite a few people have been peacefully demonstrating. Security has been stepped up and consequently the AZ delegation is being bused to the convention center tonight. More » |

Gustav takes center stageAs it should. The AZ delegation and the Nevada delegation are sharing a hotel and we all convened for breakfast in a neighborly fashion this morning. On the agenda, as you’ve likely seen in the news, all speeches and evening events are cancelled for today, although necessary business will be conducted and several delegation parties separate from the main convention will still occur. The Honorable Mary Peters, a fellow Arizonan and present Secretary of Transportation, also had to cancel her appearance at our delegation breakfast. Luckily AZ Congressman John Shadegg was on hand to rev up the morning crowd as only John Shadegg can, speaking on issues ranging from ANWR to ethics reform. Me? I’m on my way to the green room backstage and hoping to catch a glimpse of Wolf Blitzer. More » |
