LATEST COMMENTHumpty Dumpty is evil. Nov 14, 2008 @ 11:28am |
Why is Humpty Dumpty an egg?Since living with a 4-year-old I've had to stretch my brain a little bit more. He, of course, asks all those "Why?" questions, but his why questions are generally very specific. For example, if I tell him it's time to go to bed, he won't ask "why?" More » |

Happy Birthday Bamm BammWhen you going into foster parenting, you know there is a possibility that you will fall head over heels in love with the children in your care and then one day hand them over to a family member with the possibility of never again knowing anything about the child you loved and care for. Sleep deprived and that's okYesterday my day care provider asked me how it feels to be a mom again. If I weren't so sleep deprived I might be able to come up with a thoughtful answer, but instead the feelings are still a little unclear. More » |

When all the answers are "No."On Sunday afternoon I found myself sitting next to a 5-year-old at church. Down the row was a VERY pregnant woman with a toddler. The toddler would occasionally get herself into a precarious position and I would rescue her, since her mother seemed to need the help. After seeing this a few times the following conversation ensued: More » |

18 days laterIt's been a rough almost three weeks since I left Bamm Bamm at his relative's house. Before the transition occured a lot of people told me to "Give yourself a week to grieve." For some reason that translated into my head "After a week you will feel better." More » |

First MemoriesWhen Bamm Bamm was first placed in my arms, on a warm August day, I couldn't believe he was only 10 months old. He was so bright and active. He was almost walking and weighed an amazing 28 pounds! Within 9 days he was walking on his own and had lost a pound, possibly due to some controlled eating. Whenever anyone asked me about him, the word I used to describe him was "Happy!" I couldn't believe how smiley and gregarious he was. It took a few nights, but soon he was also a peaceful sleeper and I realized I had lucked out. Many foster children come into your home traumatized and broken. Maybe not all with broken bodies, but with broken spirits. Bamm Bamm wasn't broken. He was very much alive and well. Somehow I had lucked out and received a foster child or amazing baby who was almost perfect. He would prove to have some challenges and issues, but most within the context of being a toddler.
