Well, I guess it isn't just Element Community Church, that thinks Christians need to be talking sex in church -
Epic Church, which meets Sundays at 10 at the Park Place Mall Movie Theaters is joining the movement. Except Epic is talking porn, not sex.
Sept. 7 is Porn Sunday at Epic. They'll be using an "explosive program"from
XXXchurch.com ("Porn is bipartisan," the web site proclaims) to address the issues surrounding pornography, according to an Epic press release.
"With MySpace, Youtube, Paris Hilton and the Girls Next Door, porn has become America’s new entertainment. With divorce, lost jobs and sexual dysfunction, pornography is fueling a new breed, the porn generation," the press release says.
XXXchurch founder and pastor Craig Gross contends: “The American church doesn’t need the 'sex talk' it needs 'the porn talk'” because of the following stats:
• Pornography accounts for 23 percent of retail online sales
• 54 percent of pastors admit to struggling with online pornography
• 40 million people visit porn sites daily
• Pornography accounts for $57 billion annually worldwide and $13 billion in the United States.
“We have a national day of prayer, national day of fasting, the church needs a national
day of porn, with direct and honest talk about the issues surrounding pornography – we
have to get accountable,” Gross said.
I have watched a relative's life destroyed by porn. I've comforted a friend who's marriage was devastated by her husband's addiction. People might think it odd that a church would dive head first into this puddle of muck, that they should pretend it doesn't happen to their congregations, but I think Epic is taking a great stand.
