After a Wells Fargo executive testified about a check made out to Analisa Valencia on Mia Henderson's account, which Galareka Harrison allegedly wrote and cashed, a juror asked about previous testimony.
Valencia testified previously that early one morning, she got a call from a woman purporting to be from the bank – the implication being that Harrison was calling to get more information to steal money from her account.
The caller said there was something wrong with her account and asked for more information, Valencia said. Valencia didn't provide the information because the call was odd, coming at 2 a.m.
Today, a juror asked if a Wells Fargo employee would call a customer at 2 a.m.
"They may," said Mary Jacquline Humphreys, vice president of corporate security for Wells Fargo.
Humphreys said, though, it would be odd to call at that hour. She suggested the only explanation would be that the caller was in a much different time zone.
Another juror asked Humphreys if bank tellers check the picture ID when a check is cashed, to make sure the person matches the picture.
"Generally, yes," Humphreys said.
However, she said in response to another question, signatures on the check aren't usually verified.
Harrison told police after she stole checks from Mia Henderson's desk, she used Valencia's driver's license and UA ID, which she took during a study session, and cashed a $500 check.
Prosecutors say Harrison was angry at Henderson for calling police about the alleged theft and insisting that she be prosecuted, so Harrison killed Henderson.
Defense attorneys say Harrison killed Henderson in self-defense.
