Bosnian Cuisine: Chef Alisah's Restaurant

ALL IN THE FAMILY AT CHEF ALISAH'S

It would be quite enough if Ahmet Alisah's new restaurant was the only purveyor of Bosnian fare in town, or the whole state for that matter, but Alisah doesn't stop there. It's the only true Bosnian restaurant in the U.S., he says.

I'm going to check it out today (5931 N. Oracle Road) as if I would have the slightest clue of how truly Bosnian a restaurant's Bosnian fare could be.

PILETINA U SOSU UD GLJIVA                                         SARMA
(Chicken with mushroom sauce)                              (Stuffed cabbage leaves)

"You can eat Mexican burritos and Italian pizza at 500 other places here, but nobody can prep and cook what I make," Alisah told me.

He's sure I'm going to love his "terrific, healthy and slow-cooked European and Bosnian cuisine," and is just as sure that he makes the best Cevapi to be had, anywhere.

              BUREK                                                                CEVAPI
     (Beef-stuffed pastry)                                             (Bosnian sausage)

I'm game, and he can also count me in on the Bosanska Kafa (Bosnian coffee that's very similar to Turkish coffee). Here's a link to PDFs of the menus.

Chef Alisah's Restaurant is open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m for lunch and from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for dinner. No phone as of yet.

                       TUFAHIJA                                           VOCNE KUGLICE
                      (Apple cake)                                                (Fruit balls)

The husband and I almost ate here on Saturday, but wound up going Greek. I'm curious to hear what you think of it!

Being from Bosnia and knowing Ahmet i have to say that he is full of himself. HIS CEVAPI ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A BOSNIAN CEVAP. The service is horrible had to wait for hour and a half for my food. He is giving good Bosnians a bad name!

Bad, bad, bad, not even close to any bosnian foods, and I had plety when I was there. All this guy claims is wrong. Best this, best that in USA. SHUT UP!!! I too waited 1.5 hours for very bad and cold food out of the can. HORRIBLE !!! NEVER AGAIN !!! This is a shame to all other Bosnians which were completely absent from restaurant. That tells you something.
