Cats have a bowl bid 100 percent wrapped up

No more doubt. Arizona is DEFINITELY going bowling.

Results from Saturday's games guarantee it, specifically the Wildcats' 59-28 win at Washington State, and Oregon State's 34-6 win at UCLA.

 Here's how it works:

Arizona has six victories, guaranteeing a .500 record with three games remaining. That's all you need in order to be bowl eligible in a 12-game regular season.

Arizona will fill one of the Pac-10's seven bowl slots; the league cannot possibly have more than seven eligible teams. That's what UCLA's loss meant Saturday.

USC, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State and Arizona all have at least six wins.

Washington and Washington State have been eliminated from postseason consideration.

That leaves Stanford, UCLA and Arizona State.

Stanford could make it with one more victory, giving the Pac-10 six postseason teams.

But there is no way the Bruins AND the Sun Devils can both make it. Each team needs to run the table to become bowl eligible. Since they play each other -- Nov. 28 in Tempe -- it's not possible for both teams to reach six victories.

And that's that.

Arizona will be in a bowl for the first time since 1998.

The only question now is, which one?

As a refresher course, here are the Pac-10 bowl destinations:

Pac-10 champ -- Rose Bowl, Pasadena, Jan. 1

Pac-10 No. 2 -- Holiday, San Diego, Dec. 30

Pac-10 No. 3 --  Sun, El Paso, Dec. 31

Pac-10 No. 4/5 --  Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Dec. 20

Pac-10 No. 4/5 --  Emerald, San Francisco, Dec. 27

Pac-10 No. 6 --  Hawaii, Honolulu, Dec. 24

Pac-10 No. 7 --  Poinsettia, San Diego, Dec. 23

Question: if Oregon State and USC both end the season with one loss (which means we loose to OSU) ...who goes to the Rose Bowl?

lvgold,

If Oregon State and USC each finish with one league loss, the Beavers would go to the Rose Bowl because of their head-to-head victory over the Trojans. OSU has to play Cal, at Arizona, and Oregon.
