Pima Community College football coach Bill Laslett resigned Monday, according to a press release from the school.
The reason I mention that here on the high school sports blog is because of the obvious impact it has on so many Tucson-area football players on the roster.
Of the 60 players on this year's
Pima CC roster, 31 played for a high school in the five Class 4A and 5A athletic regions based in Tucson – 5A Southern-I, 5A Southern-II, 4A Sonoran, 4A Kino and 4A Gila.
In Laslett's three seasons, Pima CC was 1-30, including 0-10 this fall. The Aztecs were outscored 505-37 this year and were held scoreless in seven of 10 games.
The new coach, whomever will take a chance there, will have to have strong local football ties to keep some of the local players who have been going on to play at more successful junior colleges around the state.
The search, according to the school, has already begun.
