University of Arizona president Robert Shelton talked to me briefly Monday after a Faculty Senate meeting. I asked him what his biggest fear is now that he knows Gov. Janet Napolitano is leaving to run Homeland Security for Barack Obama:

"Janet has been so strong in supporting education, both k-12 and higher education and I don’t want to prejudge Jan Brewer – I have no reason to think she’s hostile toward us – but it’s the fear of the unknown.”

He has a meeting with Brewer on Wednesday, he said, but it was set up before it became apparent that she would be the Governor by January .... right in time to tackle the $1 billion + estimated revenue shortfall.

White-liberal Robert Shelton is one of the many people who is helping to keep the truth about slavery out of the history books of the UofA. When will the truth about Native Americans who owned African American slaves be told.

Arizona Republicans traditionally have a strong Fascist-like anti-intellectual streak.I would fear Evan Mecham in drag myself.

Two things, The news recently reported on how the U of A is going to again increase tuition. Rather than the school increase tuition how about they end their eternal purchase of property, rather sell a few million worth. Granted the U is growing but their need for these expansive tracts of land that they both have and continue to buy is silly in todays economy. Second, following traditional Republican beliefs, the new Republican state house majority leader has already stated in the news that we "can expect a drastic cut in public education". Republicans like stupid, untrained, uneducated people, Republicans think they are easier to control and Republicans LOVE an ignorant drone class.

Subsidize education for good students like we subsidize BigOil/Middle East with our Military!

1/10th the $'s wasted in the various middle eastern excursions could pay for this!!!

WHY settle for mediocre Arizona education? ALWAYS near the bottom of the barrel in comparison with other states...ALWAYS!

When education is not directly linked to PROPERTY TAXES, then education in Arizona will improve, NOT a day before!

Enact a Prop 13-type legislation to help stay in OUR homes instead of having to sell out because of constantly increasing property taxes!!!!!!
