Mr. Serraglio, why should the citizens of Arizona believe anything you say? The Center for Biological Diversity has a well documented record of making misleading statements, falsifying facts and even committing outright perjury in a Court of Law in order to advance its radical environmental agenda.

Remember the Chilton Ranch Case

Ray Carroll stated that, "Rosemont Copper has shown no effort to compromise with regard to its proposed copper mine in the Santa Rita mountains". If that is not a case of the pot calling the kettle black, I’ve never heard of one. The truth of the matter is, Save the Scenic Santa Ritas and others who have opposed the Rosemont Copper project, including Mr. Carroll, have never shown any effort to compromise on the Rosemont Copper issue. From 2005 until present, their position has been "NO MINE" under any circumstances.

On the other hand, Rosemont Copper has made numerous substantive efforts to compromise. First of all, Rosemont Copper has been transparent in its dealings with the public. They have offered tours of the site twice a week and hosted numerous meetings, where they have listened to the concerns of members of our community. They used this dialogue to find ways to make compromises such as: their investment in modern technology and use of innovative mining practices, which will reduce their proposed operation’s aerial footprint and water usage to one-half that of a conventional mining operation of similar capacity. This is possible through their planned use of dry tailings technology, a proven technology that has been successfully used for more than twenty years at many localities all over the world.

Dry tailings has many advantages over conventional tailings technologies. It decreases the size of tailings disposal sites and significantly reduces an operation’s water consumption. Unlike conventional tailings ponds, they form stable, solid platforms, which are less prone to catastrophic failure. They are easier to reclaim and can be progressively reclaimed over the life of the project, because they are able to support heavy equipment. Unlike conventional tailings ponds, dry-stack tailings facilities are also less susceptible to groundwater contamination because they contain little free water. Dust control issues can be effectively addressed through progressive reclamation, compaction, use of binders or wetting agents, agglomeration and other operational procedures.

Rosemont Copper is funding the construction of a pipeline as a part of their commitment to the Community Water Company of Green Valley to bring CAP water and recharge it in the Green Valley/Sahuarita area. Rosemont Copper has also committed to recharge 105% of their use and specifically directed that the capacity of the pipeline and recharge facility be designed to accommodate other water storage.

Rosemont Copper has worked with Tucson’s astronomy community to reduce light pollution through the use of LED lighting.

The Rosemont Copper project has been designed with reclamation and closure in mind. Rosemont’s footprint and its visual impact will be minimized by commencing reclamation activities at startup and continuing this work throughout the life of the project with an ultimate goal of returning the land to productive use following the completion of mining activities.
