Golf N’ Stuff and Christian radio station KLove 88.1 presented an encore performance of Come Thirsty at Family Fun Nights on Thursday, August 20th.
Golf N’ Stuff, located on 6503 E Tanque Verde Road, hosts Family Fun Nights that features Christian musical groups in addition to discounts on food, games and attractions during the summer months. Now that school has started, the events will be scheduled accordingly.
In their encore performance, Tucson based Christian band, Come Thirsty performed.
The band members, husband and wife, Minh and Carlos Solorzano – vocals and drums, Rich Philips – keyboards, and Jeff Sanders – guitars, have been in the studio recording some of their original music since their last appearance in June.
“We are still working on our project with a few more songs to record,” Carlos Solorzano said.
The first half of the two hour show, Come Thirsty played a number of popular Christian and praise and worship songs. The set did include two original songs, I Surrender and I Love You Anyway.
The group, all accomplished musicians, skillfully playe
d each song showing a level of professionalism and that they were well rehearsed.
“We rehearse two hours at a time and keep trying to get it right,” Sanders said.
The second set showcased the versatility of the group and the individual talent of the band members.
Drummer, Solorzano, kicked it off with a drum solo combining latin and fusion styles with advanced stick work indicating both practice and experience.
Following with an all electronic keyboard and drum machine performance, Philips played an original song that had a smooth jazz/R&B favor. Throughout the selection you could hear his skill as a piano player.
Lead vocalist Minh Solorzano and guitarist Sanders took the stage and performed an original acoustic ballad, Shine, which they co-authored. Sanders in speaking about how he found the group through a classified advertisement said,”It was meant to be, right from the beginning.” The song showcased Solorzano’s melodic vocals as well as Sanders’ accomplished acoustic guitar playing.
The second set continued with a “bluesy” slide guitar arrangement of Abundance of Rain.
Towards the end of the set, Come Thirsty performed Daniel 9. “This is probably not what you might expect from us. It is us thinking outside of the box,” Carlos Solorzano said in his introduction. He was right. As Sanders stepped to the microphone and Minh Solorzano stepped to the back, something special was about to happen. Daniel 9 was a “spoken word” set to music. Once again the diversity of the group was showcased.
On a warm summer night in Tucson, Come Thirsty provided a constant breeze of musical enjoyment.
