3rd Friday Knights starts April 16, 2010 at the Life Center of St. Paul Methodist Church.

Monday, March 29th, 2010

3rdFridayKnights_logoThe Arizona Christian Men’s Basketball Association has teamed up with the Southern District of the United Methodist Men to sponsor an evening where men can get together for worship, hear information to grow stronger spiritually and physically, and fellowship to build relationships during the open gym.

“AZCMBA was founded to promote fitness, health and wellness to adult men,” said Barney Hilton Murray the founder and director. “By partnering with men’s ministries and organizations, we hope through education and awareness, encourage men to take ownership and responsibility for their health. Our platform is prevention and early detection,” Murray said.

Jamie Harwick, the president of the Southern District of the United Methodist Men, agrees with Murray about providing a venue where men can have a holistic approach to their health and wellness. Harwick will be facilitating a men’s Bible study prior to the 3rd Friday Knights fellowship at 6:00 p.m.

This event will be open to all adult men 18 and older. It’s a man thing. There will be a lot going on that evening with music, the Men’s Minute, Half-Time Health Tip, and information tables from our sponsorship. There is also volleyball and pick-up basketball for juniors 18-35 and seniors 35+.

TMF President David Drumm

TMF President David Drumm

The TMF formerly known as the Tucson Association of Evangelicals met for the first time for dinner at New Life Church of God, 330 W. Nebraska, here in Tucson.

Once a quarter, in different quadrants of the city, TMF will be hosting an evening meeting for dinner, fellowship, and prayer, for the purpose of building and maintaining relationships among Christian ministry leaders throughout our city. This gives the opportunity for those who can not make the monthly luncheons a chance to participate.

TMF meets for lunch on the 2nd Thursday of every month at Journey First Evangelical Free Church.

At TMF, their primary purpose is to build and maintain relationships among Christian Leaders.

By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. – John 13:35

A different kind of power lunch

Friday, March 19th, 2010

TMF logo300This is not your typical business “power lunch” but a fresh and meaningful experience. The objective is not to see how many business cards and connections you can make for the purpose of becoming profitable, but how you can share and participate in ministry to meet the needs of the Tucson community. What makes this power lunch different is this luncheon is powered by God.

The Tucson Ministry Fellowship, formerly known as Tucson Association of Evangelicals, was formed for the purpose of building and maintaining relationships among Christian leaders.

On the second Thursday of every month, the group meets at the Journey Church (Evangelical Free Church) on 4700 N. Swan at 11:30 a.m. In attendance you will find pastors, ministry leaders, community members and leaders of service organizations. This includes radio stations, magazines, outreach organization and churches. The Giving Tree Outreach Program and Interfaith Community Services attended this week, to name a few.

The room is set up with round tables and to preserve the integrity of the lunch, marketing and promotional materials are not allowed to be displayed on the dining tables. A designated area is set aside for that, and announcements are made to encourage guests to take advantage and visit the area for the latest in announcements and services.

This Thursday after an opening prayer and welcome by David Drum, president of TMF, the attendees enjoyed a buffet lunch. Lunch conversation was centered on getting to know guests at the table. There seemed to be a genuine interest in each other which may have been rooted in the novelty of meeting someone who works for the same “boss” but in a different division.

After lunch, we heard from pastors that attended the four-day prayer summit last week and the impact it had on them. This was followed by a time of prayer. At each table, guests are encouraged to pray about whatever is on their heart. Through this individual’s prayer, the other guests pray silently that God would meet the needs or desires of the one praying aloud. After all have prayed, guests stay in worship until the meeting is called back to order.

There is something special in having people praying for you and with you. The sense of hope and encouragement that you leave with really does uplift you emotionally and spiritually, which makes for a good afternoon.

You may come away from a TMF lunch with your appetite satisfied and a network connection or two, but if you allow yourself to listen and be free, you can get spiritually fed as well. Now that’s a power lunch.
