Grand opening of Repower Arizona

by on Oct. 21, 2009, under Life, Politics

Repower Arizona, a campaign of the Alliance for Climate Protection (founded by former Vice President Al Gore in 2006) is having their Grand Opening celebration at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, October 22. They are located at 2233 E. Speedway, between Campbell and Tucson Blvd. on the north side, in the Prescott College building.

The Alliance is a “unique non-profit, non-partisan organization that is committed to educating the global community about the urgency of implementing comprehensive solutions to the climate crisis.”

The celebration will feature state Representative Steve Farley (LD 28) who will “formally launch a new phase of our field campaign supporting clean energy legislation thanks to this ground presence in Tucson.” Repower Arizona appears to be a part of the nationwide Repower America project.

Repower Arizona’s task is to educate Arizonans on “the benefits of transitioning to a clean energy economy, including providing a greener future for our children, bringing thousands of new jobs to Arizona, and helping to end our deep dependence on foreign oil.”

Contact Julie Burguiere, field organizer for Southern Arizona for more information on this new Tucson environmental group at (520) 850-7427, or julie.burguiere@climateprotect.org. And RSVP online for the open house.

You’re welcome Beth.  Sounds like the grand opening today will be a good time to find out more about Repower Arizona, and learn about how to get involved.

Clean(er) air is always good.  So is reducing our dependence on foreign energy sources.  However, I would take issue with any notion that clean air will affect climate change on this planet in any significant way.  Global warming ala the notions put forth by former V.P. Al Gore simply do not pass current scientific data muster(Oscar committee decisions notwithstanding).

About 50 people attended this opening tonight, including state Rep. Dave Bradley, Councilmembers Uhlich and Trasoff, Katie Bolger(aide to Councilmember Glassman), reps. from Congressmembers Grijalva and Giffords, and  Rep. Steve Farley, who spoke about the need for legislation re: climate change and solar energy, and his pleasure that this Empower Arizona field office was within blocks of his home in central Tucson. LD30 candidate Andrea Dalessandro was also in attendance.
