Final tally: 9 p.m. 11/6: Uhlich wins by 195 votes, Kozachik by 1728 and Prop. 400 lost by 927 votes. Pima County Elections Division worked overtime tonight to finish up the provisional and “conditional” provisional ballots as well. A total of 118,623 votes were cast, 30.6 % of the registerered voters of Pima County.

I am a big supporter of Downtown having worked there before for the Tucson Parent (newspaper), the Domestic Violence Commission, and currently as a Hearing Officer in Small Claims Court (now located at La Placita, before it was at 32 N. Stone). Nina is my Councilmember but even our neighborhood board recently had concerns over her lack of communication with us as well. If Steve Kozachik does win I certainly hope he will represent Ward 6 well.

C, my sista owns a biz downtown and Nina has almost driven her to extinction with her bad business policies and general lack of compassion for downtown shops. I’m glad to see her gone, she cared nothing for her constituants or anything else in her ward, seems to me she was in it only for herself. She was dismal as a newscaster, pathetic as a councilperson and over all a difficult human to deal with based on what I’ve been told by folks from the City that had to deal with her. She was given the shovel and she chose to dig her own grave because she lacked honor, discipline and self respect as displayed by her work performance. As a Conservative Independant voter I held my nose when I voted for her 4 years ago because I assumed she had to be better than Ronstadt but I was wrong. My hope is that Steve K does not turn into the same type of do nothing, what’s in it for me, politician. If I could rub the magic genie bottle just once my next wish would be for Ralph Grijalva and his merry band of subterfuge to be gone next. Our house (town) needs a thorough cleaning from the inside, bottom, out and soon. In the end it won’t matter a bunch to me as I am planning to move out of Tucson/Pima county within the next 4 years but for the folks stuck here, they deserve a whole lot better than what the are receiving from the curent status quo. Nina is a start and Walkup/Fimbres/Ulich/Huckleberry/Giffords/Grijalva/Romero/Hein/McCain/Kyle and Brewer should be next-we need new blood and new ideas/vision. Romeo, I think Nina’s being Chair of the Rio Nuevo Council subcommittee hurt her a lot as the perception of downtown development is very negative. Many people I speak with say they never go downtown at all, or haven’t in years. Kovachik’s lead has gone down to 1675 but he’s considered the likely winner by now. Good bye Nina, in the time I’ve lived in Ward 6 you have been the worst council person I have ever seen. I have called your office and spoke to Gloria at least 15 times in the last two years and you have done nothing. I hope you lined your pockets cuz you are going to need it to get by until you find your next “Gravy Train” to come along. I voted for you based on your campaign promise to rid us of the garbage fee and you lied. Good riddance to bad rubbish, call if you need some boxes to pack your trash, adios!

Thurs. 11/5, 4 p.m. update – Uhlich winning by 240 votes, Kozachik by 1722, and Prop. 400 losing by 784 votes. Final tally should be done tomorrow, with the provisional ballots.

Wed. 11/4, 3 p.m. update– still close: Uhlich winning by 444 votes, Kozachik by 1332 and Prop. 400 still losing by 745. Probably won’t know the final count till Friday as the Elections Division will be couning the remaining early and provisional ballots.

Yes I admit that is the way that it seems, and yet somehow I find it hard to believe that only conservatives care enough to comment online. I notice that liberals frequently – perhaps even more frequently – comment when the subject is something other than politics.

I suppose the discrepancy is that the online commentators are people who care a lot enough to comment online, but that may leave out the “silent majority”. I wondered about that myself back in May 2006 with that RTA election. From the online posts in the newspapers, I thought that sales tax increase for the RTA would be defeated, but it passed 60% to 40%.
This City of Tucson General Election is closer than predicted. The opposition to Proposition 200 was growing over the last few weeks so I knew it would be defeated by a large margin, and I suspected the poor economy would hurt Propositions 401 and 402 for TUSD once again.

Can anyone explain to me the huge discrepancy between the actual voters of Tucson and the ones who appear online in the Star’s comments section or here in the blogs and comments ?
Because if you looked online you would see that everyone wanted the incumbents out, thought Prop 200 was wonderful, and if I mentioned that the people I talked to thought that the State legislature was the disgrace it was made to seem that they were in the majority.
In fact, it is a persistent theme that the teabaggers are the majority, somehow being repressed by evil liberal forces like ACORN.
It is a serious question – can anyone explain the huge gap between the reality of the REAL citizens of Tucson, and the representation that they receive in TC – and in the comments on the Star and here ?
It isn’t simple editorial policy, because the comments aren’t controlled.
