I recently found a notecard of a copy of an old, vintage postcard of the Pima County Court House, with the printer being Found Image Press (www.foundimage.com). If you log on to their website, there’s a link to hundreds of vintage postcard images from all over the world.

Here’s an image of a vintage Tucson postcard (which I incidentally picked up at an art reception at the Temple of Music and Art in April, 2008):

Greetings from Tucson postcard

The explanation of Tucson locales are (from left to right) – Pima County Court House, air view of Tucson, U.S. Veteran’s Hospital, Papago Indians, San Xavier Mission, and Giant Cactus (Saguaro National Monument).

For a nostalgic trip into yesteryear, check out their website. For their link to 4 pages of Arizona images, click here.

on the Attorney General campaign trail…Jan. 29

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Who’s running for Attorney General for the State of Arizona? Not current AG Terry Goddard as he just announced that he is running for Arizona Governor against incumbent Jan Brewer and other wannabees. After all, Terry’s father Samuel Goddard, Jr. was Arizona’s 12th Governor for 2 years from 1965 to 1967.

Arizona Borderlands Democrats are hosting a Blue Year’s Eve Party and early AG debate between candidates David Lujan, Felecia Rotellini and Vince Rabago on January 29, 6 p.m. at Jody Walker’s Barn (at their Guest Ranch on 99 Curly Horse Road) in Sonoita.

Former Pima County Democratic Party Chair Vince was until just recently an Assistant AG in Tucson, David is a State Legislator (House minority leader) in LD 15 Phoenix, and Felecia (another Phoenician) is the Superintendent of Arizona Dept. of Financial Institutions. Of course, this being a Democratic event, state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne, a likely Republican candidate, will not be participating.

I suspect there may be more AG candidates than those listed above, so stay tuned.
But if you want to meet these Democratic candidates (facing off in the August 24 primary), drive out to Sonoita for the fun.

“The purpose of the Arizona Borderlands Democrats (ADB) is to support and advance the principles and ideals of the Democratic Party, to provide a regular forum for candidates, and to keep the electorate informed on current events and issues.” ADB is mostly centered in Sonoita, Elgin & Patagonia, Santa Cruz County, AZ.

Maurice Grossman photo gallery

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Chris Tanz, a sculpture artist and friend of Dr. Maurice Grossman’s, asked me to post this photo of Maurice doing what he loved, registering voters. Maurice was a ceramic artist, retired professor, and well-known community activist in Tucson. There were so many heartfelt comments under my first blog (click here) which I wrote two days after Maurice passed away on January 21.
